Ok, honestly i think that Caravaggio is one of the greatest. The only thing that diminished his greatness to me it is that he used kinda all the same human models for his paintings. In the same pose with the same light treatment. You just realize that when you see several paintings together (which, especially with Caravaggio), doesn't happen often.
And, here is the big difference, you don't see this on Michelangelo and Leonardo paintings. They invent, Caravaggio "Just" copy.
That made it step down from "Absolute genius" to "great artist who know his trade but is more human". Nonetheless I still think he is great.
And his murderous face was on the most beautiful banknote design of all time. The History is quite ironic if allows a renown murderer to have such kind of glory.
