Long time, no see. Hope that you’re doing well."It’s just that I very much doubt if the reader will notice the difference between ‘true’ and ‘scaled’ small caps in common text fonts sizes."
True. And I also doubt that diners will notice the pinch of salt or the oh-so-gentle squeeze of lemon the expert chef adds to his dish.
I certainly underhand where you’re coming from; however, typography (like pretty much anything) is comprised of details—oftentimes apparently inconsequential minutiae. A good type designer will take care to position, shape and size even the smallest of elements (the tittle in the lowercase i, the shape, size, and position of a comma or period; manually adjust thousands of kerning pairs). The constituent elements combine to aid to the maximum the reader’s comprehension of the text..
Most people, most of the time will remain oblivious to the detail (and that’s not necessarily a bad thing), for when the detail is conceived as a constituent part of the whole, then it will not distract or hinder comprehension and legibility. Yesterday, I spent some time looking at single Lilly (Amaryllis belladonna) in a plain unglazed vase; the petals were infused with a feint blush of pink, the filaments (stems) of the stamina terminated with beautifully ‘crafted’ anthers (serifs) dusted with mustard and yellow ochre pollen; myriad other details coalesced into an exquisitely beautiful whole. Most will appreciate the beauty of the Lilly; few will notice the ‘minor’ details; but that does not make them extraneous.
Moreover, the pride of a craftsmen (in this instance a typographer or type designer) comes into play, but that too, I’m sure you’re cognizant of.

We had our first baby (pre-natal) class last night. What a gong show. Bunch of hockey jocks in the group all knew each other and took it as an opportunity to act like they were back in high school. To top that, the instructor is one of those people that thinks you should go around the group and introduce yourself, and say a few words. The only thing I have in common with those people is that we happened to reproduce at the same general time. Nightmare.

I watched Heroes last night, though we're probably further behind than you guys. I'm fed up that they only have 1 story for any given series, with only very small variations. I won't be watching it again. I could close my eyes and paint each episode by now, just like the sorry plot devices they continually use in teh show
- I will continue to watch it because I have already invested time. And I like torturing myself.juhls
- By the way, if you are behind, it only gets worse.juhls
- i liked the whole comic book store scene with all the stereotypical comic nerds.. like girls dont read..blog
- ..comic books and it takes a girl to get the stupid all same age kids staring at the girl ..so funny!!blog
- Oh G-d, it only gets much, much, much, much, much worse. The acting somehow gets worse as well, which adds to the general, "Ugh." feeling.********

I like how Claire getting shot and somehow, miraculously (does no one else know what she can do), surviving is a recurring theme in every season.
Jesus love, I know you can survive a bullet, its the boredom thats the killer.

Fuck man. Fuck fuck fuck. I have been trying for ages to perfect my Bazooka print process. I have overcome every single obstacle but one... I make relief plates out of chemical wax which means the ink has to be waterbased otherwise the whole thing gams up and collapses. try as I might I simply cannot find a good thick mix for darker pigments. Light, warm, neutral putty tones go down perfectly but as soon as I venture into anything more vivid (necessary for contrast) the ink draws up into globules on the wax and the result is a fucking disaster.
A few shots below. My last hope is to add some kind of powder to the darker tones (I mix the inks myself) but frankly this is getting WAY too long winded now considering I'm merely trying to make something that has a better heritage than shitty 'giclées'.
I'm rapidly coming round to the idea of just doing 'giclées' and fucking craftsmanship right off.
