Maybe they've built a version with a light-weight monitor that attaches to some head-gear so that you can walk around with it in front of your face. They could have an iSight camera facing out so you could choose to have a screen that shows you where you are going. Mittens with half a keyboard on each them. And mouse movements would be made by tracking our eyeballs. And although a catheter might be uncomfortable, using the heat from your urine to power the thing would make it a completely green (well, yellowish-green) product

- Phew. ok, all out of good ideas for the rest of the morning. You guys will have to sustain yourself on that gem until i've recouped.locustsloth

I've just been getting really hot under the collar thinking my new mac has developed a fault. I got all sweaty and angsty because I had put the CD in (I don't have itunes libraries they just fill up HD space) pressed play, got nothing, checked idisk player volume, got nothing, check Mac volume, nothing, checked speaker prefs, fine, checked cables to headphone remote station... all good... but no sound. Checked volume on headphones and power remaining... all good.
Then it occured to me. I didn't actually have the headphones on my head, they were on my desk.

^ Do you mean that you take the point size of the text type and add 3pts meaning 9/12pt, 11/14pt etc?

nah orbit, I mean to set your baseline grid you would make it a common fraction of a series of type sizes which relate to each other, ie.
if you set your baseline at 3pts, then set your small captions at 6 and your copy at 9, they would both fit comfortably onto that this baselines, with a comfortable leading which is also a multiple of three
ya get me? if not, I'll set up a page and screen grab it
- but you could as easily set 7pts and 10, its the leading being the multiple that matterskelpie
- Ya but having a nice relationship between your font-size and leading is also important.********

moa, is it Bell you used as font?

Kelpie, I occasionally do something similar to what you're talking about. I set my grid to 3 or 4 points and then use font sizes and leading in multiples thereof. So maybe a 3pt baseline with 9/15 copy and 3 or 6pt space after paragraphs and so on. Headings etc are also multiples thereof. For magazine- and report-type stuff it works out really well.
- kelpie0
yeah, I'm trying it out now, not sure if its working the way I wanted but I will report back ;)
- Good luck.
It can create a good rhythm on large blocks of copy with headings and sub-headings, etc.********
- Good luck.

ok, clearly I'm a tube - the copy and captions don't line up as they are obviously aligned to different multiples of the grid (is that a big deal), the whole thing is lovely if I reduce the body leading to a cramp inducing 9, but then I may as well have set the grid to 9 itself.
so much for being a smarty pants ;)
