I think that you can keep your *original* corporate name as long as in the fine print (especially contracts and so on) it says "Rand's New Name" dba "Rand's Old Name" or something similar. You'd also have to change your chequing account, etc.

I wonder if it would be weird to just change the website name and keep the old billing/corp name

I'd like one of those pseudo retro-businesslike names like "office of ____" or something
- Why?NotByHand
- http://www.qbn.com/t…NotByHand
- would "office of ____" be an example of the trying too-hard kind of name?********
- kelpie0
YES here, provided it doesn't harm you in any way.
what's wrong with your name? its not a bad name, not like you're Herman Bosworth-Funderburgh or something
- yes as in change it - R&R or something...kelpie
- I was afraid fluxism set up a false expectation of artiness or something; if it doesn't, I'll stick with it********
- *Herman Bosworth-Funderburgh kills himselfNotByHand
- research and ruin?********
- lol********
- rock and roll, relaxation and recuperation, romulus and remus...kelpie
- Corvo20
I don't know why you're thinking about ditching "fluxism" - all I know is that a name that relates to a given body or work is hard to establish these days. I wouldn't change it unless you have real good reasons to do so.
I like your work, m_r . It's looks very american to me and you use the Cam typeface very appropriately, which I don't think is easy to achieve. Somehow the coherence of what you do reminds me of Bau Da Lab Design in the good old days. In short, it will never be outdated.
- so I guess it's a NO.Corvo2
- I was afraid fluxism sounded hokey, bogus, or pretentious********
- or more arty than the work therein********
- not dying to change it if it's not that bad********
- thanks for the kind words, corvo********
- Well, I honestly cannot say what "fluxism" sounds like since I'm not a native to english. "Flux" relates to art-by-instruction here...Corvo2
- ... -instructions around here, which I think is not inappropriate for design. Artsy, yes, but it's not pretentious.Corvo2
- "artsy" is not the right word. "Fluxism" here relates more to controlled "flow", "output" rather than art&fancy.Corvo2
- NotByHand0
Honestly, I do think Fluxism sounds fairly 'artsy'... makes me think immediately of "Fluxus". And having something end on "ism" is, well, lofty. That said, who gives a fuck? I learned many years ago to not put too much stock in the name of studios/agencies...etc.
I rarely see a connection between the name and work anyway.
Sort of like names for other things (bands, companies...) - once the brand personality, or quality of work+ personality in your case, the name isolated has very little significance.
Know what I mean?
–
(By the way, I'm in no way trashing your name, just being honest - thought you'd appreciate that).
