Guys. I'm paying for Adobe. Yes. For real. Got too much problems with other apps and cr4ck3 v3rsi0n so I got back to paid subscribtion. Also, changes at work next year makes me go back at designing and I want to work in the apps more to be ready.

BUT. FUCK ADOBE! Their stupid Adobe CC Desktop app to manage programs is a real pain! All my download stop and stuck at 45% .... From my research online, its a common problem for a shit load of people since... 2014!! And its still a problem 5 years later! ... I'am angry

    • Adobe, Apple, Google...same Bumblefucks!utopian
    • I find that adobe cc is rock solid. Weird.monospaced
    • you should try it on a MacGnash
    • i find it far quicker on PC. benns error isn't that that CC stops his download at 45%, there is a problem with his computer and this is the resultkingsteven
    • prob due to having cracked software on there tbh. not a fan of Adobe and you shouldn't have to know how your computer works to dl CC...kingsteven
    • but this could be caused by anything. at least try and find out what the problem is.kingsteven
    • FYI Bennn, use Event Viewer https://is.gd/Z3NUuL… see if there are any errors while downloading may give you an idea of the causekingsteven
    • Prob due to some connection issue between CC and Adobe servers, if it's not something obvious like firewall it could be the crack put a registry block onkingsteven
    • connections to Adobe or even the wrong version of .NETkingsteven
    • It's weird how much trouble you're having, I never have any issues. Are you trying to download all the apps at the same time?zarkonite
    • I will try to investigate more, kingsteven thanks for the tips. No, only one at a time, zarkoniteBennn
    • I might end my subscription and try one of the free alternatives. Though, I’ll probably end up with cracked CCfuturefood
    • I have to say I've never had significant issues over the last three decades cracked or not.CyBrainX
    • Adobe's servers have never given us issues, so I doubt there's an error on their end.monospaced
    • Going the cracked way is complicated, sometimes it works, sometimes it dont. And you can't find and make work all the programs... depends on wich you needBennn
  • MrT4

Just killed the "Adobe Acrobat Synchronizer" with Activity Monitor (Mojave). Memory warnings in AE caused me to look at what was using what. Nearly 2GB of RAM, running constantly, to synchronise shared PDFs and the like. Acrobat isn't open and I sure as crap don't use collaborative PDFs.

Dear Adobe, please give users choice in these things and fuck off while you're doing it.

    • I've just turned on my laptop to use the browser to check emails and browse. Out of interest, check tasks - I have 10 adobe-related ones running. Why?Nairn
    • ..there's not even some CC-related icon in my task menu so ostensibly, there's nothing Adobe-related running. 10 fucking tasks.Nairn
    • Jesus, same crap over here. Thx for the tip–fyoucher1
    • They seem to have this weird goal of becoming a kind of parasite OS. It's getting really fucking cloudy round here!MrT

    Affinity Designer > Adobe Illustrator.

Spend the time and learn the basics.

    Superior desktop product.

    iPad version exists.

    No contest.

Haven't even touched their other offerings; Photo & publisher BUT might pull the trigger on all 3 for $210-ish.

    No subscription(s) (for now).

    : )

    • i dont think they will ever put a subscription model, the vast majority of their clients are there because they dont have one :)Bennn
    • Maybe major versions paid? Or grant-father in users who get in pre-subscription?

      Regardless me likey.

    • I find the only problem again is that you have to begin in Affinity, NOT move from Adobe and expect a perfect transition.ideaist
    • yup. i've made the switch. learning curve is steep in unexpected places, but overall, it's goodbye to adobe and their scammy subscriptionhans_glib
  • Continuity1

Looks like Adobe finally did a good thing and listened to people. I found this this morning in PS:

    • Is that the switch for whether you need to press shift or not for transform? If so, it's been there since they changed the default method.Nairn
    • Yeah, that's the switch.Continuity
    • There's been an option for that since day 1.zarkonite
    • Apparently not, because there had to be a legacy free transform hack as a text file in the Prefs folder since a few updates back.Continuity
    • On day 1, when we upgraded, I was able to switch back to legacy. It's been there the whole time.monospaced
    • Likewise here.Nairn
    • From the official release notes the checkbox was definitely added in 20.0.5. Prior versions required text file setting.evilpeacock

I wonder how many people are paying the full CC sub just for Photoshop and sometimes a few minutes in Illustrator or InDesign 4-5 times per year.

Beign able to build our own ''package'' of programs would be a good thing. They're just offering the 'Photography Pack' or the 'Full On Sub' ... and the piece by piece software make no sense... WHo wants Illustrator only for 21$USA /month ?

    • I doubt people sign up for full subs if they aren't even using the software. Your description is of a non professional. Better off using free built-in apps.monospaced
    • No mono. Not all designers work with 5 Adobe program opened all day long making 145,000$ a year. Only you and your friends ;-)Bennn
    • The moment you need more than two of their programs, you soon need more. Like PS + ID, likely you need Illy and Acrobat Pro as well. etc etc. This is why.mekk
    • I am one of those people - I use Illy all the time, then PS about 3-4 times I week. I now have the full suite for £1 more than both those programs indepedently.Nairn
    • Nice to be described as a 'non professional' because of this by monospaced though. A new realisation for me. Keen insight!Nairn
    • @ Bennn, I NEVER said my friends make $145,000 a year. That was your assumption.monospaced
    • I only said that if you charge a decent rate (such as $50-$100 an hour), you can pay for a month's subscription in less than a day, as a professional.monospaced
    • If someone doesn't need to use it for regular work, chances are they aren't professional. You all take things way too fucking literally (autistic much?)monospaced
    • Thank goodness Adobe has plans for these scenarios, which aren't contracted for years.monospaced
    • For me the value in CC, and what keeps me locked in, is that the individual apps are cross-compatible. If I were just needing a pixel editor aka PS, I'd use onezarkonite
    • of the alternatives by a competitor. I ditched Sketch for XD even though it's inferior because it plays so well with the rest of CC and I know Adobe is going tozarkonite
    • be around in 10 years... I'm not so sure any of the startups will and I've got a business to run and re-training costs $$.zarkonite
    • I pay the full for mostly PS, AI, Acrobat Pro, Bridge and sometimes In. Then sometimes I use AE, Pr and Audition.oey

I don't know if some you remember a recent post of mine in the Blog thread about me being broke and clients abandoning the ship (LOL!) to the point I started to wonder if I changed to Affinity and whatever other options cause I could not afford to renew my Adobe CC subscription.

    Update:

I was lucky to get a gig where in three days work I was paid enough to renew my subscription, pay 500€ of rents, buy a new battery for my mac and also for my phone, get me some hash and buy a month of groceries.

But somehow I'm still not convinced in renewing my subscription.

I started to sweat with the idea not being able to do my work, personal and professional.

Honestly I'm not that a pro (by choice) but I work with Adobe products for more than 20 years and I have a certain workflow.

Maybe the Software I would miss most would be Bridge, yep I confess and despite finding some alternatives I find the way everything connects...I also use Font Explorer...is super easy and without flaws..at least in my case, and that's what I think what I would miss most.

Nowadays I practically only use AI and PS, but I totally love when I have the chance to work with Indesign.

So I could easily replace them for the level I work I do with Affinity products.

But I would miss occasionally Premiere or Audition and recently AE, like each maybe 5 times a year.

I believe that as a professional 420€ (in my case) a year are totally affordable and I just had a bit of bad luck combined with bad planning.

But damn, I miss the chance to "buy" products by category.

Like a package for graphic, or motion or web...
I would totally pay for it.

I mentioned 7 apps and I don't need Adobe Stock.
I thinks it's really disappointing that only this Photography package exists.

I haven't renew my sub and I'm still thinking what if I change, how bad could it be?

I guess being used to it for over 20 years, having Adobe Certificates and a solid workflow really plays a big role in my decision and I'm lucky I don't have to pay 700€.

I considered applying for the local College just to use the Ateliers/Workshops and get the Student discount.

Does anyone of you quit and moved on?
    Do you miss Adobe?

I remember Eskema using Affinity at the same time I was testing it was well.

Sorry the long text but I needed to think out loud.

And yes fuck Adobe but also not totally.
    It's difficult...

Maybe if I land another good gig soon I buy Affinity and use it for my personal projects to get deeper into it and next year I will be able to make a decision based on experience.

    Thanks for reading!

    • I tried, been using a cracked version of CS6 for a while, but changed computer recently and didnt manage to reinstall a working copy.Bennn
    • So i tried different open source alternatives. To replace AE, AI, PS and ID ... everything i've found sucks, crash or have a steep learning curve.Bennn
    • So now im paying for the Photo plan wich include PS, Bridge and Lightroom, the 3 programs i use the most.Bennn
    • But now I miss AI, ID and AE ... using those rarely but when i need it... i'd need it. Not i dont know what to do to replace them.Bennn

Been finding Indesign, Illy and Photoshop CC 2018 versions all slow and buggy on my iMac 2015 retina with 24gb ram and ssd!!!

Surely it shouldn't be slow and laggy.

Though I see that Apple have fecked up the graphics drivers in High Sierra so Adobe aren't at fault apparently.

Should i just roll back to CC 2017 or go all the way back to super speedy CS6?

I only need to export SVG'sthough that are compatible with new browsers.

I still work in cs, and this past year, clients on CC can't
Open cs AI files. Little search, found it's common. So basically Adobe is killing legacy files to make people shift to the monthly as well as working with apple to kill cs, updated while back and destroyed certain function. Fixed it by getting Little Snitch and cut off all adobe communication. Ai doesn't crash as much now, just no access to being able to print (crashes) and type preview, but all well. I can work around those.

I can't update CC as my work Mac has to use a virtual machine to access the internet.
Spoke to Adobe (surprise right there) and as it's a 'cloud based service' they don't support virtual machines and I'll need the Mac to access the internet to get updates.
If anyone knows of a work around ie updates as .dmg files that would be handy.
Upshot is, I'm removing myself from the subscription, why pay for something I can't use?

Every time i go to replace fonts in Illustrator and InDesign i get so frustrated with the tiny GUI that pops up to search and replace. It's so unhelpful yet surely so easy to fix. First world problems i know, but it's been like this for years and it could be so much more intuitive.

So it's that time of the year.
I was charged 61,59€ for my Adobe CC subscription.
I was like okay, I will cancel it.

I'm canceling it and step by step I come to a window with an offer that is basically the same as what I'm paying now, 35,69€

Still, the offer marked as "best offer" is 2 months free then 61,59 a month.

I mean, what?! how is this possible?
Fior sure this will be possible to do every year, so why would anyone choose the "best offer"?
