Just saw this tweet in a Lifehacker article:

''Adobe is raising the price of a single CC subscription from $39.99 a month (already incredible) to $48.99 a month (genuinely ridiculous). How much longer is the software-as-a-service scam going to continue before we reject it''

SO, Adobe is raising the CC price from 40$USD to 50$USD /Month or from 53$CAD to 66$CAD

    • How much do you think is a fair price for so many tools? $1 a month? or $0?

My monthly cost for the entire CC set of Apps after taxes / fees = $53.14 US which is $637.68 / year.

Not even close to $1K a year allows me the opportunity to sit and work in my underpants and make a helluva-lot-more than I pay Adobe.

The cost is insanely CHEAP given what I'm able to create for my clients. Is it annoying when 'updates' to the software really don't provide something better? sure...

...but ffs STOP WHINING so much!! I and MANY OTHERS on this site make a pretty nice living thanks to Adobe. The 'air' I purchase from them on a monthly basis allows me to crank out Websites, Books, Ads, Animations, Signage, Stickers, Business Cards BLAH BLAH BLAH... the possibilities for either tangible or on-screen useful products from Adobe's 'intangible software' is extensive (and lucrative if you're not a whiny baby who refuses to learn and apply these Apps instead of sitting on a forum complaining that tools cost money).

Today is the end of, what is for me, a very long era.

I'm nixing my CC subscription, just doing Illy, which I absolutely need, and am moving off my once-beloved Photoshop to Affinity Photo. I've been using Photoshop since version fucking 3.

But, I use Photoshop so little, and generally for really basic things I could've done with Photoshop 7(or whatever), so it's really hard to justify continue paying for. I really don't use anything else in the CC suite either.

By the way, Affinity are selling their wares at half price at the moment.

So long, and thanks for the fish.

    :(

    .

Affinity Designer's a steaming mess to my eyes though, so although I have it, I think I'll continue not using it.

This just reminded me I needed to cancel my plan, since I get a full subscription through work. Been subscribing for like 4 years, this is now year 5. So I called just now. He automatically threw me the ol' 2 months free bone and I explained it doesn't matter as its literally an unneeded expense at this point. He then tries to hit me with a $250.00 cancellation fee. I lost my shit, because when I called mid last year to cancel, thats what ended up keeping me on, that fee. I said at the time I might as well finish out 2017 then. So basically you have a 14 day window, (Jan 1 - Jan 14) to cancel or you're right back where you started, but they don't explicitly tell you that. In the end, he waved the fee, and I'm on only out the $50 for this month. I shoulda called on Jan 2; thats my bad. I told him don't worry, if I ever go freelance again, ill be back. Whats funny he seemed more emotional than me. Maybe call centers get reverse rewards for losing customers idk. Feels good to have an extra 50 a month I'll tell you what

    "Adobe Muse Product Announcement

As Adobe continues to re-focus on developing products and solutions that provide our customers with the most value, we are now announcing the end of new feature development for Adobe Muse CC.

On 26 March 2018 we will release the final feature improvement release of Adobe Muse"

Good to see our subscription money went into a software, marketing + all associated business costs, only for them to give up when they finally realise what they built was crap, bloated and nothing short of a glorified template editor.

Note to Adobe: reduce our subscriptions costs by not wasting money on nonsense new products that you then withdraw after a couple years. Just stick to making sure PS, AI, AE, IN, PR work on the latest os's and are lean and fast. Don't waste money on new nonsense novelty toys ain't nobody gonna use besides a few adobe fanboys, eg Character Animator, Dimension. And bring back Freehand you fascists!

Apart from some annoyances here and there I don't understand all the hate for Adobe on here. Their stuff is cheaper than ever. $50-100 bucks per month, that's like a cup of coffee every morning per month. Or if you don't make money with it and just use it for fun/ personal use you can torrent it. And their tools got so much more powerful.

Yes there are some alternatives out there but nothing compares to it in complexity and options. And it's also industry standard.

    • No. It's. Not. Cheaper.
It IS, if you bought every release - but most people didn't do taht, preferring to skip a release or two.
      detritus
    • I seriously can't get my head around why people don't appear to be able to see this.detritus
    • Huh? The standard "All Apps" per year is $53 bucks per month. I really don't get it how that is expensive?M01XXX
    • A) I'm not US
      b) My point comparison is previously being able to buy a release every 2-4 years, not every year.
      detritus
    • C) I don't have or need the whole suite.detritus
    • D) Personally, as I've said repeatedly - I don't ven need CC except to open client files. ALL the functionality I need and use I have on my CS4 CD.detritus
    • E) Once every fucker moves to a subscription model, then see how much of an eye you have on your monthly spend.detritus

The whole saving process in Photoshop is so odd now:

Save, Save as, Save a copy, Quick export, Quick export as, Export for web, ...

Save as JPG is not possible anymore when there are layers (it used to ask if ok to flatten in the past).

Also I recently get a "Save to cloud" screen first, even though I just want to save locally.

    Is Adobe reading this thread?

    • affinity photo, just sayinghans_glib
    • I really miss Photoshop, if I'm honest. Affinity's useful enough, but there are so many things PS Just Does Better. That said, fuck Adobe.Nairn
    • And as Not Great as Designer is, it's utterly unusable for my work as it doesn't handle stroke thicknesses under 0.1pt or something. Useless.Nairn
    • And also asset export with its own set of separate conventions. And then legacy output modes. So weird.monospaced

    • even the most fanatical adobe fanboy has at least heard of non-adobe programs even if they don't use them.cherub
    • it should just be save, save as, export. all streamlined, optimised, fast, great ui.shapesalad

Black Friday deal on now for Creative Cloud. if you chat to support you can get that deal (40% off) even with an existing subscription. They'll say no initially, but just say a colleague got it and you want the same deal. ask if they can double-check, and they'll send you to tier-2
