So 5 stars from Peter Bradshaw in The Guardan - he's a great reviewer and doesn't give top marks easily... yay!

- site won't open for me - what does it say?fadein11
- that the movie is all kinds of incredible. glowing reviews from everyone.CygnusZero4
- ^ yep - the only crit is not severe... so please - going to be watching in less than 10 hours (midnight showing)fadein11
- lucas was at the red carpet premiere. i cant imagine how sick he must have felt sitting there watching a sw movie better than any of his.CygnusZero4
- no fucking pressure Mr Rian Johnson, you're up next.Bluejam
- it must sting to have someone come along and take your baby that you created, and then turn around and do it better than you. yikes lolCygnusZero4
- Rian Johnson will be fine. JJ will be hanging over him and the episode 9 guy. SW is in good hands.CygnusZero4
- 98%!!!! 121 reviews - jesus. it's a corkerfadein11
- @fadein11 but you kinda knew that anyway :-PBluejam
- haha - well I have to say I never doubted JJ for this film... and his approach which was obvious. But those leaks I read may have been fake - I think there willfadein11
- still be a few surprises for me ha.fadein11
- I dont know anything about the sith in this movie. Apprently, like the original trilogy, they never actually say sith in it.CygnusZero4
- So I dont know who the Palpatine of this movie is.CygnusZero4
- They talk about the dark side, but not the sith at all. Is it this guy Snoke that Andy Serkis is playing? All of that will be a surprise to me when I see it.CygnusZero4
- Snoke is a CGI character. It would be interesting that the main baddie is all CGI. Or is there someone above him pulling the strings?CygnusZero4
- I know a fair bit about Snoke and how he works in the film but will save it for you :)
Rest assured it sounds fantastic.fadein11 - i reckon this guy is going to be the main bad guy ...

I honestly would really love to see JJ do a Batman movie. I dont think there's anything this guy cant do right now.
- fuck batman, im bored of him.
give JJ the keys to Akira.Bluejam - Im a huge batman fan. I collect expensive figures and shit lolCygnusZero4
- hahaBluejam
- Ooh yes Akira would be good.fadein11
- <3 BatmanBen99
- fuck batman, im bored of him.

Cygnus wait until you've seen it to say it must suck for Lucas to see someone do better than him with SW.
I just saw it and couldn't say if it's better than the original trilogy, what I can say is that it only exists thanks to the orignal films (duh).
- he was probably referring to the prequels mostly, and Lucas only directed one of the original films I thinkmonospaced
- I know, still it's very much his thing.spl33nidoru
- how did you see it?fadein11
- It's not out in Europe until Midnight tonight, press screening?fadein11
- It's out here in France since this morning 9amspl33nidoru
- (films come out on wednesdays here)spl33nidoru
- Talking about the prequels. Lucas didnt make Empire or Return. Obviously there is not one person that is going to think this is worse than the prequels. lmaoCygnusZero4
- fuck just looked - why did you get it early!?fadein11
- But yep Cygnus point was clear - the prequels were awful and Lucas directed them. Lucas only directed A New Hope of originals.fadein11
- and Empire is easily the best - so he had a valid point imho.fadein11
- Cygnus let's discuss it after everybody's seen it ;)
fadein11 : i know, weird http://www.wired.com…spl33nidoru
- CygnusZero40
Benicio is in episode 8, not 7, which is interesting. Why wouldnt the main baddie be in episode 7 at all? If he even is the main Sith guy.
- CygnusZero40
Uh oh, the score dropped on rotten tomatoes... to 97%! haha
Fresh: 127
Rotten: 4- haha - must be terrible - may not bother watching now ha.fadein11
- i already put my 2 tickets up on craigslistCygnusZero4
- First world problems. Below 90% on Rotten Tomatoes - will not watch.Ianbolton

Man I am getting fired up.
"For the first hour or so of The Force Awakens, director J. J. Abrams gives you everything you hoped for, and even exceeds your expectations. The spherical BB8, the new droid that became a best-selling toy before the movie was even completed, lives up to the hype: He’s a miraculous creation, a machine that expresses feelings and emotions and humor through beeps and boops and tilts of its magical floating head. And Abrams knows exactly how to use him as a character instead of a special effect. Keep your eye on BB8 the second (or fifth, or sixth) time you watch The Force Awakens, and you’ll see how even when he’s just hanging out on the edge of the frame, Abrams is always giving the cute droid some bit of business to do."
- very good review imho (the whole article)spl33nidoru
- My body is readylajj
- haha lajjmonospaced
- garbage2
holy crap. i can not BELIEVE they killed off luke in the first hour of the movie.

Any fans here of the Expanded Universe watch this yet? Did they completely fuck up the story line or does it still work?
- Existing universe was rebranded as "Legends" and all future stories will not be contradictory, apparentlymonospaced
- I'm watching it either way. It would just be strange if it changes too drastically.IRNlun6
- c'mon, the universe is such a fucking drastic change it's already been ridiculous for decades... not changing it isn't saying muchmonospaced
- Disney has deemed the EU no canon anymore, and renamed it to Legends.CygnusZero4
- *not canonCygnusZero4
- I really don't care if they change it or not. Just saying when you have a long standing expectation of characters and it changes, it's just strange. Thats all.IRNlun6
- So you do care ;) Anyway, they don't want to crush the fan's imaginations with major changes. They plan to keep it intact.monospaced
- CygnusZero41
I just noticed something and this would be SPOILERS, so scan past this if youre avoiding that. I personally dont care much about spoilers. Ill still enjoy the movie just the same.
I'm noticing a major similarity in concept art for Snoke (really tall, thing head), and comic book art for Darth Plagueis. Might be nothing, and even Palpatine said Plagueis is dead, but they REALLY look alike.

No Spoilers from me.
4/10.
Weak lazy filmmaking. A few good elements.
Not going to say much until people have seen it but it's hardly better than the prequels.
And this someone who was convinced JJ was going to nail it.
That's it for me - I am letting SW go now - getting too old and cannot be arsed for another wait to be let down lol.- downvoted for having an opinion or downvoted because you are disappointed it is poor...fadein11
- Trust me I really wanted to love it. But I didn't. wWent with 3 other SW fans - and we all left deflated.fadein11
- that's like giving it a D, really that bad?monospaced
- I haven't seen it, just read about it like most people, but you might possibly be the only person ever to say it was "Weak lazy filmmaking."monospaced
- ^ weak and lazy because there isn't an original idea in it - he played it v.safe. I am amazed I am saying - see all my previous comments before it came out.fadein11
- :(monospaced
- Really not trying to piss on anyones bonfire - I know its had an amazing response and I expected to have the same... I wish I could say it was just me but myfadein11
- friends felt the same. Go watch and make your own mind up - I'd be interested to hear what you think.fadein11
- yeah, I understand... I think I'm easy to please when it comes to sci-fi movies, I give them some slack, and I remember how goofy the originals weremonospaced
- I'll also be honest with my feedback. I hope I can make myself view it as a 10-year-old would. That's the key to enjoying it, really.monospaced
- ^ yep v.true - I said that to my mate - said this film wasn't made for us. Going to take my to see it as she has watched all the others with me. Just worriedfadein11
- daughter was missing from above. Just worried there is one scene that may upset her - its PG13.fadein11
- Bluejam-1
- Ben990
a movie wich such expectations can only lead to deception anyways
- spl33nidoru0
fadein11 I understand your disappointment though I wouldn't rate it as low as you, probably 7/10, I loved the first third.
Then I left the theater not caring to see it again, but I now think I would enjoy it much more today, being free of expectations and knowing the story, and I'll most certainly go back this weekend.Could someone have done a better job than JJ ? Who knows, these are impossible shoes to fill. If someone handed me the keys to make a new Star Wars film I would say "no thanks", like Spielberg, Zemeckis and Coppola did for the prequels.
Is the universe perfectly re transcribed in this one ? I think so. Could the story have been more interesting ? For sure. But as someone who was born in the early 70s I think the only SW film I wouldn't be disappointed at would be an unreleased one shot in 1985.
- Yep - fair comments. It just didn't have enough originality for me. We all knew it was going to be a homage but just too close to EpIV...fadein11
- I will give it some time and watch again when not so late and not so tired. But I have a feeling I will feel the same unfort.fadein11
- I completely agree, what I liked about the first third of the film is that JJ was not being precious with it.spl33nidoru
- yep 1st hour was good funfadein11
- nb-1
I predicted everyone's reaction. Never forget.

I am the Nostradamus.
- Except its getting praised to the high heavens, so it sounds like you were completely wrong.CygnusZero4
- ^ I really wish I could praise it and after reading the reviews again it almost feels like reading about a different movie.fadein11
- Oh shit! I don't read mainstream reviews, only QBN Reviews.nb
