For Mirroring: Does it only work with an Apple TV, or do you reckon it might work with an HDMI receiver that has Airplay?

@mg33 That's a damn good question that nobody as far as I can tell has even addressed! I wonder if the AirPlay software in A/V receivers was even set up to take video at all. Probably just audio, right?

mono - I've tried YouTube from iOS device to my Marantz receiver with AirPlay, and it only played the audio. I'd need to test this out at some point.

    • that tells me the receiver doesn't have the newer "software" to throughput the videomonospaced1/2
I doubt apple licensed the video part to 3rd parties yetmonospaced2/2

here's a view of my toolbar.

    http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7266/7652059718_652599e15a_b.jpg

there's an eps file icon to the left of the eject button.
it tries to open a file that for a print that has been archived on an external hd months ago.
i cant drag it, delete it.. or anything - and it's only appeared since i've upgraded yesterday - any thoughts?

    • right click the window on the toolbar, select customize, drag that shit out of the windowernexbcn1/5
it should be that easy - but does not work
      bjladams2/5
hold down the command key and then click and drag the icon out of the toolbar.

This also works for menu bar icons in the top right.
      evilpeacock3/5
tried that too - ended up having to connect the hd, then remove the file from it, then place it back. worked

Apple will fall apart now that Jobs is dead.

    • almost a year since his passing, and almost two since Tim has been in control... is it time for them to fall apart NOW?monospaced1/24
      hahaha yeahernexbcn2/24
I think the push for innovation that Jobs brought to the table will disappear.CanHasQBN3/24
Besides, 1 or 2 years is too short of a time for a huge company like Apple to start falling. You'll notice it later though.CanHasQBN4/24
      though.CanHasQBN5/24
Like when Apple recently stated they won't go along with those Green standards... and then they retracted it the next day...CanHasQBN6/24
That kind of wishy-washy stuff would never happen with Jobs in command.CanHasQBN7/24
The company was Steve's baby. It's nobody's baby now. You can foresee a revolving door of CEO's...CanHasQBN8/24
People looking to make money and get out... to profit off what Steve built... but not to build on top of it.CanHasQBN9/24
How long have we been waiting for an iPhone 5?? What's the Mountain Lion update? A bunch of tiny features?CanHasQBN10/24
It doesn't feel like they're doing anything anymore.CanHasQBN11/24
Sure they put a retina display on the Macbook, but the retina display came about on the iPhone under Steve's watch.CanHasQBN12/24
The iPhone 4S is the 5th generation, and you've waited no longer than any other generation.monospaced13/24
Also, his entire COMPANY is responsible for their innovations, not just one dudemonospaced14/24
guess we'll have to see, but the updates recently are all pretty Apple standardmonospaced15/24
promising big things for Mac users next year (pro line towers, etc)monospaced16/24
Sometimes I think you just want them to fail because you can't imagine them winning for so longmonospaced17/24
I only count an iPhone update when they redesign it. 4S was basically just adding Siri.CanHasQBN18/24
      I DON'T want Apple to fail. I LOVE Apple.CanHasQBN19/24
And yes many people are responsible for executing the innovations, but Steve's the one who pushes everyone.CanHasQBN20/24
...They execute his visions. Without that kind of vision, you end up with a stagnant company like Microsoft.CanHasQBN21/24
I don't think it's as simple as one man and his vision.monospaced22/24
It's not just one man but I see a trend of targeting the low end and forgetting about the high end.CyBrainX23/24
hence, the lack of a new tower for so long, nixing the 17" laptop and obsessing on tablets.CyBrainX24/24

I also have no audio when I play AVIs but quicktime couldn't figure out which codec needed upgrading so it took me to that general page where they list every known codec for Mac. Not very helpful.

I cant get the game centre to work on the new Notifications thing.
I was presuming i would get Twitter and Words with friends and all that stuff onto it.
I think there is a function to let certain website to send you a notification which would be good. But i guess i will have to wait a bit for that.

    • Is words with friends a mac app?animatedgif1/3
yea its both now. i only have it on ipad b was hoping for it to work.ChrisKeegan2/3

No pin-tabs in Safari and no RSS, other than that it's great. The new calendar integration is good. Reminders / Notes / I see as the same thing really. Can't find a use for both I don't think. CS$ works fine, fonts work fine, LR4 works fine. Launchpad still seems a gimmick, as does dashboard.

I don't really notice much.... glad reminders is on it's own and maybe I can forgo the use of a third party to do list app.

overall I do like how snappy it all feels.
