Ever so humble, Nairn. Bless you.
I only accept drachma's as payment and charge by the lunar month, if that helps?
- kelpie0
actually, its so long since I did anything outside of work that I have no clue whatsoever what you should charge, sorry mate...
- skt0
is max prophet rasko? ha!

Seriously though, I'd charge by the hour for any identity work and give a set price for stationery, bags, etc.
- BaskerviIle0
when you say identity what do you mean? Just a logo? A whole system, typeface colour palette, look & feel.
All their print materials: packaging, menus etc?I'd charge per day, or it you think it won't take that long, by hour.
In these kind of cases sometimes it's better to negotiate a decent print budget so you can get some nice work out of it for the folio. Plus a chichi london bakery will want some pretty swanky packaging, print work

you spend a month caring, worrying, thinking, inspecting, second guessing, conversing, and deciding so said client doesn't have to worry about it.
Done right, it will be the last time they need to deal with it and the place will be handed down to the children with the same mark years down the road.
why else do they hire you, so they can get some half assed attempt that gave you a couple months rent and need to do it next year?
fuck all that, i actually care about what i do.

...recently i had a client that was insanely enthousiastic about a logo upgrade, a solution to a bad logo that could not be completely redesigned. the company was in a takeover situation and they found me a little too expensive... so THIS time i reacted differently and kindly told them i could not lower my rate, so they responded they understood and that no other company in this area has ever done better and that they'll return when the takeover situation has finalised and their financial status becomes more clear..
moral of the story: stick to your value, be realistic to both client and yourself and NEVER be desperate.. i have learned my lessons. and remain kind and constructive.

btw. the logo upgrade was a proposition, it still needs to be implemented, so the real design an printing work could be quite a lot, which also influences their budget. Quite a few cars need to be redone and all their stationary..

you said it was doable over a few days right?
I would probably go ahead and charge him the 20K that you mentioned over in my thread, but my guess is he won't pay more than 500 P.
That being said, what is the largest amount of money that you can charge your friend of a friend twice-removed and still sleep well at night.~12 - 20 hrs? x hourly rate, always round up.

You're not honestly addressing that to me, are you v3? There's a heckuva lot of false assumptions loaded in there if that's the case.
I hope it wasn't, I'd never stoop so low as to accuse anyone on here of that.
- skt0
£2000 minimum.
- detritus0
Sorry, you probably weren't.
I'm a bit of a touchy motherfucker sometimes.

not toward you detrius, just a continuation of the rant i had above, directed to the people undercutting others and low-balling the effort involved.
some people obviously do not understand the needs of a brand, it's delivery of message, need for supporting logos marks matched fonts, the fact the cost involved in said company acquiring the fonts for official use is separate from your efforts, revisions revisions revisions, possible market testing, etc.

Thanks, Baskerville - all good questions.
I've got a meeting with her next week to go through the exact nature, but yes the job I want to price up currently consists of at least the logotype and overall identity. I presume that'll then lead on to design work for menus, ads, packaging application to frontage, etc, but given that she'd (and I'd, as it happens) prefer recyclable, low maintenance packaging, it probably means just menu and frontage branding work.
I like the day/job rate thinking - because, research aside (which I never know how to cost), I can envisage this being quite a quick turnaround.
Would anyone share what they think is a fair hourly rate for branding work? That's a nosy question, so I'll understand if no one answers.

fucksake nairn, i charge £50ph for shitty web work. more for branding. you are selling yourself well short.
i'm not even a graphic designer.
skt
(Nov 16 07, 07:21)werd. i charge €65,- which is less than skt, but i intend to level it up a little next year anyway..
- wunderbra0
anyway, charge for presentations, brand implementation, guidelines distribution, brand application on all their cars, planes, factories, websites, intranet, extranet.. you may need to hire a few offices..
- NONEIS0
"Fair" is fully dependent on your experience and past sucess' doing exactly what you are offering. Just don't charge less than $50 / hour, thats the minimum "Fair" amount in my book, unless the project has serious intrinsic value or you are best pals, which you said you are not, removed twice right?
Factor in your utility bills, your rent (for home or studio, wherever you do this), the paper you are going to use printing out comps, the ink in the printer etc, you have to take care of those things too.

A branding solution doesn't come up in 2 days.
If you still think so, well, that will be worth no more than 200 Euros, if you ask me. It's a one time client but the references can be huge if you market yourself in the right way. And pricing is everything.
