"prophecies" and the fulfilling thereof is bullshit of the finest order...

You cannot see wind, or gravity but you can see it's affects.

    Isn't nature itself extraordinary proof?

    you can TEST it's effects.

james radi has a million dollars on the table if you can TEST even the most mundane supernatural event.

no ones calimed it in over decade...

^ then the bible means nothing.

there is no interpertation here. the kingdom of god refers plainly to the end of the kingdom of man.

    simple as that.

fundies CHOOSE to interpret it otherwise because it is too emotionaly devistating to accept Christ was as false as any other prophet.

Sorry lemmy, I don't see it as simple as that. Many times in the Bible, Jesus is referred to as King. His arrival is referenced as his kingdom coming to this earth. His kingdom is referred to as his work being done on earth.

So, no, it's not really that simple, and I'm really not twisting things around to make things work.

Is it easy to look at it, assume what it means, and discredit the Bible? Sure, but look a little deeper.

Just because there are many opinions, doesn't mean that there is no truth. Ultimately, there is one right interpretation, there is just a lot of debate as to what the correct interpretation is.

You can't throw out a plethora of prophecies that line up from the OT with one uninformed interpretation of the Bible.

After rejecting my catholic upbringing when I was 15 or so I spent years searching through all different spiritual and religious bodies of thought, even briefly touching back on christianity..after all of it I am happy to say I'm primarily an athiest with allowable cheat room for error. That said, a few Zen stories I read through years back have always stuck with me as they have a ring of truth. I would like to share:

    "
A soldier named Nobushige came to Hakuin and asked: "Is there realy a paradise
    and a hell?"

    "Who are you?" inquired Hakuin.

"I am a samurai," the warrior replied.

"You, a soldier!" exclaimed Hakuin. What kind of ruler would have you as his guard?
Your face looks like that of a beggar.

Nobushige became so angry that he began to draw his sword, but Hakuin continued:
"So you have a sword! Your weapon is probably much too dull to cut off my head."

As Nosbushige drew his sword Hakuin remarked: Here open the gates of hell!"

At these words the samurai, perceiving the master's discipline, sheathed his sword
    and bowed.

Here open the gates of paradise," said Hakuin."

    "
Tanzan and Ekido were once travleing down a muddy road.
A heavy rain was still falling.

Coming around a bend, they met a lovely girl in a silk komono and sash,
    unable to cross the intersection.

"Come on girl," said Tanzan at once. Lifting her in his arms, he carried her
    over the mud.

Ekido did not speak again until that night when they reached a lodging temple.
Then he could no longer restrain himself. "We monks don't go near females,"
he told Tanzan, especially young and lovely ones. It is dangerous. Why did
    you do that.

"I left the girl there," said Tanzan. "Are you still carrying her?"

    "
A rich man asked Sengai to write something for the continued prosperity of his family so
that it might be treasured from generation to generation.

Sengai obtained a large piece of paper and wrote, "Father dies, son dies, grandson dies."

The rich man became angry . "I asked you to write something for the happiness of my family!
Why do you make such a joke as this?"

"No joke is intended, explained Sengai. "If before you yourself die your son should die ,
" this would grieve you greatly. If your grandson should pass away before your son, both
of you would be broken-hearted. If your family, generation after generation, passes away
in the order I have named, it will be the natural course of life. I call this real prosperity."

i think it would take major disaster or war that really shifts conscience.

like WWII did for Europe. BEfore that Europe was terrorized by the destructive effects of empirialism since the Romans..

    i don't belive in belief...

as carl sagan said extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

i havn't ever seen a SINGLE shread of testable evidence for the existence of the supernatural.

i make no claims on the existence of a god... but if one does exist it would be the god of einstein and the founding fathers...

a deistic god that started nature, then left it alone.

Lets see what the new generations can come up with... and hopefully its not just a pepsi campaign.

  • Crouwel0

We have been discussing this for years but the smaller parties trying to come up have been unsuccesful. Nader, Perot... they have tried to no avail.

People like it easy here. We invented the value meal.

yeah, i guess the roots have settled deeper then we imagine.

    it's a thing of culture i guess:

    north vs. south

    eastcoast vs. westcoast

    etc

So, lemmys_wart, do you believe in Gods Kingdom but not in Jesus Christ as King of that Kingdom?

    What Bible have you reading?

"seriously, it's regretful that only few see the core of evil.

the rate of fingerpointing between the two parties is far beyond comprehensible.

america should go for a more complex system with multiple parties, like her ein Europe. At least things don't get so black and white as it does in the US.

I really think this Good vs. Evil, Black vs. White, that the US is so known for in the world is going to turn against them, it already did i think.

Increase of complexity unveals nuance, the grey tones will appear, and people will think more before they speak.

And lo and behold, perhaps the Americans will not be considered as politically backward.

Not my opinion, just the general consensus.

Not because the US IS backward, but because it is a nation with a lot of power, technology, wealth and a self proclaimed moral superiority to the rest of the world.

Those facts, do incite criticism from the rest of the world.

Oh well, this is an era in which everyone is learning harsh lessons i hope. Even those who assume themselves on higher moral platforms."

and that is too bad, as when i read the better blogs from certain americans you will learn as a european there is a lot of intellect there.
