I'm thinking of buying a new guitar sometime in the future. I play an acoustic one right now. Which one is the best to play, electric or bass? I know it depends on my tastes too, but I'm interested in both. Also, here are some of my favourites:
ELECTRIC

bass, how low can you go?

Are you currently playing acoustic bass??

They're both great. Guitar is obviously more fun of you are mostly going to play by yourself.

Bass is really easy to learn and get pretty good at very quickly.
If you already play the acoustic then i guess you'll have nothing to worry about.
I started playing the bass when i was about 16. I started strumming and messing about with guitars when i was about 21 and in a band. The guitar is good for writing music to or sitting strumming on its own. Whereas with a bass, you really need a good beat to play along to and get into it.
The sound of a bass is great though. get a loop of a beat on your PC, crank up the volume and play away :)
Hope you dont mind but i went and had a look at your website. On it, its got your music tastes. I noticed you like Stevie Wonder and Joss Stone. That gets me thinkin that this girl likes her Funk and Soul.
So - I think you should go for the bass babe ;) hehe

first you have to decide whether you play guitar or bass. I play bass and I have a pratice bass (which is an acoustic) and my regualr bass (electric)...

definately, bass playing chicks are cool, go for that.
Better work up your right thumb if you want to slap like Bootsy though :)

mmmmm.... remembers when he used to have an acoustic bass :)
i had to sell it cos i was a skint student at the time :(

hmmm..this is all very interesting.
i love the sound of the bass but also the electric. aaah! I'm confused. Keep the replies coming.

I play both. Guitar is probably more versatile as a solo instrument, but if you can jam with people, bass is great (and will improve your guitar skills too).
Don't like any of those guitars though. Unless you're specifically after the setups on those guitars, then avoid signature models. Plus there's more to guitars than Fender. (that said, I love my Telecaster).
If you definately want a Fender though, look at the Made In Japan models. They're the best bang for you buck.

+ 1 electric bass -- you can always find a band to play with.

Had both as a young 'un - same as Konspiracy, needed to offload my Fender Jazzmaster and big Amp for a pitance to a music shop to pay some bills, was ages till I had the kind of cash to buy again and by that time it all just kind of drifted away from me. :(

definately go for the polka dots one.
i know nothing about guitars but what I do know is that it is obvious that the polka dots one is the best. I mean, it has polka dots.

me rockin' the bass. you just have to figure out which one kicks u the most. mine was the bass - and it's important to get the proper gear : )

i agree with the fact theres more to life then fender.
there is also more to guitar playing than having an expensive guitar.
buy something under a couple of hundred dollars and you get what you pay for. everything else works, sounds good and is functional.
dont fall into the "ooooo check my fender" category.
i used to work beside two guys who got excited about expensive guitars. what a waste. stop wasting your time guys and play the fuckin' thing!!!A lot of my bass's have been Yamaha's and ive really liked them.
the bass ive got now is a light tan plani wood yamaha (dont ask me the model number) but ive had it for like 8 years. its a cracker and had a lot of compliments from musicians in other bands when i was gigging.

i agree with mimio.
if your looking to join a band theres more scope to find one if your a bass player.
guitarists are too common hehe.plus chick bass players rock my sox
- pascii0
the bassplayer gets the chicks. and i don't wanna know what a girl gets - maybe the world : )
- pascii0
btw. i play a peavey fury V and an old washburn

i just like how those Fenders look...i'm not necessarily going to buy one of those. but they do look sweet.
- konspiracy0
they do look nice.
i remember drooling in the window of a New York music shop that had a clear plastic bass in the window.
$2500 (ouch)

disagree on the yamaha basses. I borrowed one when I started on bass and it was awful. I now have an epiphone non-reverse thunderbird, which is great.
but you're right about price. that's why I recommended the MIJ ones. Even the mexican fenders can be good (they're just more hit and miss, so best to try a LOT of them in the shop). Most of the Epiphone basses are good for the price, and quite a few other brands offer some competitive models.
There's little use springing for US Fenders or Gibsons unless you can clearly feel and hear the quality difference (which comes with time/experience)
