Vespa I agree, bass playing is a specialized craft. Just that in my experience, finding and keeping the good ones in a band, has been problematic.

not true jack. i've had the displeasure of having one of those in my band before and it was really painful, but carving out a stomping bassline is a specialised craft.

You don't know Jack.

Most bass players are just frustrated guitar players. The really good ones unfortunately never stay in just one band, theyr'e in such high demand. Why not cut to the chase and go directly to guitar – do not pass Go. You can always pluck away at the bottom 4 if you feel the need to be a bassist.

:)
I don't see that big of a difference between the number of female guitarists and bassists, although I've never done any research. Just going by the bands that I am interesting in. Usually if the bassist is female though, the lead guitarist is too.

re the comment that if you play bass you'll always get work, true, but female guitarists are not common - they are much harder to find than female bassists.
i just spent a couple of months searching for both and it took much longer to get a good female guitarist.
best of luck jaline

errr, no saxophone please!

I played the piano for 6 years and was just too lazy to continue going to lessons. Plus I didn't like my teacher much. Maybe I should start that up again too. I also have to remember to practice my saxophone....*sigh.

word jaline. or a piano, which works better for me

'Tis true. I know so many people who play bass on stage but have to write their songs and primary music using a guitar. Because it's just inconvenient and impossible to do using a bass. I love its sound though.

usually bass players shag the burds instead of playing 'no woman no cry' and 'stairway to heaven' the whole afternoo : P

Bass is not all that enjoyable to sit around and play on it's own.
I don't know many people who get excited when at a bass player's house and he says, "Let me get out my bass and play you a song."
It's kind of boring.But a guitar - I shouldn't have to describe that.

nice job. I like the colours. I like black and white.
Especially with girly polka-dots. Haha
