Jesus - first Xmas-related enquiry today.

i've no doubt some of you are working on seasonal stuff 6 -12 months in advance, but for schmucks like me, mid September's horror enough.

    • I'm doing holiday packaging at the moment. 'Tis the season.monospaced
  • since19791

    the storyline continues:

i slept in williamsburg for a few days, got sick and then slept almost 2 days straight.

I settled in greenpoint for a few weeks. now to find some work n stuff $$ wh8iile I continue my graphic novel and write a screenplay for my friend's webseries

    • cool - good luckmugwart

    • noice. a writer. I'm working on a feature now and finished a couple shorts this summer. Just starting UCB writing program in a few weeks.shellie

I thought about starting a vent thread...
    But I'll write it here.

So I finished Armin's Website and ran some tests.

I found out that the Security Headers in the .htaccess file were not being read but everything else was running smoothly except from the fact that the .gif file in the Homepage is 4MB (Client will send me a new one).

Back to the issue, I wrote the Web Hosting Technical Assistance and explained what was happening and that I suspected it had something to do with fact that "AllowOverride All" was not set and that why the following was not being read:

    <IfModule mod_headers.c>
    Header set X-Content-Type-Options "nosniff"
    Header set X-XSS-Protection "1; mode=block"
    Header set X-Robots-Tag "none"
    Header set X-Frame-Options "SAMEORIGIN"
    Header set X-Download-Options "noopen"
    Header set X-Permitted-Cross-Domain-Policie... "none"
    SetEnv modHeadersAvailable true
Header always set Strict-Transport-Security "max-age=15552000; includeSubDomains; preload"
    </IfModule>

I received an Email from the Technical support to try it out.
What I found was that besides the problem not being fixed now I had more issues:

    robots.txt - NOT found
    HTTPS - NOT redirecting properly
    Language – NOT declared
Sitemap for users – Missing (It's actually there I can navigate to it but it's not being read!)
    If-Modified-Since – NOT found
    Findable Links – NOT found

Among other stuff...like the original .htaccess file was slightly different from the one I had written and uploaded.

    Today came the reply:

They repaired the permissions and they repaired something in the JavaScript!!!

Also they said that the media-queries.css file was not in the CSS folder.

No it's not, I had it like that but was only using one CSS file for the main css and that the media-queries part was in that CSS too.

Like I rented a house and the owner came in while I was not there and changed the furniture and checked what I had in the refrigerator...

Needles to say that the issue is still there like the rest of the problems...

    Aaaaargh!
    I wrote back

    • "that's why..."oey
    • the "I wrote in the end" should read "I wrote back" right before "Today came the reply"oey
    • Good old Apache server. You finnicky fuck.section_014

I felt bad teaching a 7 yrs old girl how to open beer bottle... she didn't have any tho.

    Side note
I thought I don't know how to hang out with kids. But I think I did fine. The trick was to get drunk. Till she wouldn't stop following me everywhere then I went into hiding...

Someone calls you out of the blue, asking you if you're interested in a potential job that starts next week. You say yes.

They say they'll follow up in a few days.

You don't hear from them and the job was supposed to start the next day.

So you text them or email them to follow up.

    They don't respond to that.

You figure, it got pushed or they found someone else.

Do you try to call them or do you just move on??

    • do both. move on in your mind but follow up as one last ditch efforthotroddy
    • move on and don't ever take any more calls from them.robotron3k

the UK doesn't say "drunk driving" they say "drink driving" what in the holy fuck. you guys invented english and you talk like that?

"drink driving" doesn't even make any sense. EXPLAIN YOURSELVES.

    • you don't necessarily need to be drunk in order to be convicted.Fax_Benson
    • and if you're going to use it as an adjective it should probably be drunken driving - like you guys have put any thought into either.Fax_Benson

Getting old. Have semi gotten away with not doing a lot of exercise and eating so so. Last 6 months has caught up with me...everything aches all the time. Too much time at the desk and working from home. I need to start getting active again. I walk a bit but I don't think it's enough. Need to get my blood pumping and also think I need to do some resistance/weight work. My body feels like it's about to break into pieces.

I got an offer through a recruiter, signed the paperwork, they just ran my background check and made me do a drug screening test.

I have to wait until the end of the week to know the results. But I believe it'll show up positive on THC.
I told the recruiter I was concerned about it, and she told me it's up to the client.

I've never had this problem before, but every client is different and this is a big corporate company.

so the issue was that I've set up https via cPanel in Web Hoster with SSL support and redirecting from HTTP to HTTPS with SEO friendly 301 page...

whatever...it's not working...browser shows connection insecure....

    WTF?!

I created a sub-domain in my domain and tested the page there, with Cloudflare enabled, everything works.

I know it has to do with the Server settings, what I don't understand is why the page is showing insecure...

If I remove SSL support everything works perfectly...

    What a mess!

    • uhh, i'm stoned and can't specifically remember what — but i think the way https works doesn't allow the redirects you want. I think i hit this problem recentlydetritus
    • yeah, vaguely coming back - i set up free ssl certs on some sites and then couldn't use the :#port under ssl because it's a redirect of sorts. i think.detritus
    • ^ yes, exactly. before it wasn't allowing redirects but even with the https it was working. now...oey

    • are you running WP or the like? if so... there's plugins that solve this :)PonyBoy
    • Are you sure it's not because of content loading on the page from an insecure source?BabySnakes
    • no wp...i'm gonna have to write the guy again and tell him about the https redirecting issuesoey
    • yep it will be content referring to http and not https. you need to update all links to images, pages etc. to https not http.fadein11
    • I thought so too. I checked every link in the html and js files. maybe i'll do it again.oey
    • but still, is that why it doesn't detect default language and other stuff in the .htaccess file plus the robots.txt and sitempas.html?oey
    • and if the content would be referring to http links instead of https why did it work in the server where i have my own domain? I'll just check everything.oey

    • If you're using CloudFlare, to host the DNS, that's where you have to update the A record.elahon

Piece of advice: If there's ever something you don't want a client to do, don't tell them you don't want them to do it — just don't fucking mention it at all.

Because as soon as you mention the thing you don't want them to do, goddamnit, that's the thing they'll do. Then they'll report back confirming what they've done gleefully, whilst you're there with your head in your hands wondering whether any of it is worth it any more.
