where do you see yourself in 10 years time? Oct 23, 08, 4:42 a.m.
Serious answers need only apply.
In the industry? Creative director? Freelance? Doing charity work? Retired?
Anyone projecting ahead in their minds and giving this consideration?
Does Larissa Meek work in your studio? Mar 25, 08, 7:01 a.m.
See the future of web design post. Anyone have a Larissa in the studio?
BBC NEWS PAGES Apr 2, 08, 8:50 a.m.
Just looking at the source code on this and noticed it's a table based layout. Odd that the beeb's site is often seen as best of breed and yet that "layout" is not built with CSS.
I guess it'll be updated some time. Any views from yourselves?
VAT reduction Nov 24, 08, 5:45 a.m.
If it happens (in the UK) will you reduce your prices or will you take the difference and keep it for yourself?
is it me or is everything too expensive now? Mar 25, 08, 7:44 a.m.
In the UK, I just think I'm paying too much for everything. Gas, Electric, Oil, Diesel, Food. Anyone else feeling over stretched?
where are we with global warming? Sep 11, 08, 5:11 a.m.
Watched the BBC prog about GW - I'm still not sure what I think on this subject. I know that I would rather think it wasn't happening (that would suit me as I quite like things the way they are - I drive a car, I fly etc). Nevertheless I look at the evidence as it is presented and I'm still not 100% sure what I believe. I "do my bit" in that I've changed my light bulbs, I do drive less and I consider the global impact of most things I do. However, I still worry about the "concensus" idea and the fact that the counter arguments are always destroyed without making real comparisons between the arguments. What's the common view on this, anyone? Are you all as confused as me?
engage studio Apr 10, 08, 5:52 a.m.
I seem to remember a guy called James_Engage who used to post here who worked at engage studio. What happened to them/him? Anybody know?
twitter May 15, 08, 5 a.m.
Anyone using it and has it changed your life forever? I can't see the (greater) point (in it) - am I missing something (. . . and don't say friends)
where did mimeartist go? Dec 16, 08, 4:28 a.m.
That guy, James, used to be jamesengage then became mimeartist, where/when did he go?
Those that have left the design industry Nov 24, 08, 5:56 a.m.
Anyone have any real life stories of people who have left the design industry and where they ended up. I knew a graphic designer who left and is now a teacher (not a lecturer in design but a "standard" school teacher). Most other people I know just talk about leaving but haven't gone yet.
Any real life profiles to share?
The bleedin' obvious Aug 8, 08, 2:17 a.m.
I've been reading some blogs and tweets recently and I am amazed, truely amazed at the fact that many people seem to write the most obvious things as if they are some huge revelation to the rest of us (their readers). Can I just say "You're not the first to have done this . . . I'm bored with your updates about how you managed to get extra work done by getting up 1/2 hour earlier than normal, or how you've installed some wanky to do list on your i-phone and if only you could print it, but anyway it's made your life so complete, and I really don't need to know that you've discovered the countryside really is beautiful, or that there loads to do in London. Please. Stop. Wait till you have something useful to tell me."
Sorry eveyone - I know to some extent this post is doing what I'm complaining about. But right now I just wanted to get this off my chest as there's been no one here for the last three days and you know what I've discovered, when it's quiet like this, I find I'm a whole lot more productive.
equip the studio Apr 10, 08, 7:15 a.m.
care to give a list of studio essentials - I think they used to do this in creative review:
like
2 x MBP 15"
2 X 24" monitor
Pantone Book
Adobe CS3
Portable Hard Drive
Canon Digital Camera
Scanner
HP Printer
etc
I'm just preparing a shopping list!
The badge of success Oct 24, 08, 2:02 a.m.
When can you wear that? At what point in your life do you think, that's it, I've made it. Is it when you toss the keys to your Aston to your butler at your ski chalet? Or is it when you produce a really great piece of work and then just take the rest of the afternoon off, because you can?
Any thoughts, cause I'm confused and caught between the dream (ie the first one) and the reality (ie the second one but maybe not great work just work.)
Flash version Jul 9, 08, 3:37 a.m.
Wondering which version of Flash most people are targeting these days? I have a client who is saying 6/7. Which version do most people build for? If less than v9 how do people stand with AS3 is that being "ignored" until more people build for v9 or has everyone just adopted v9 and AS3 without worrying about who has what version of flash installed.
Thanks.
Future of webdesign - anyone going Mar 25, 08, 6:33 a.m.
Anyone going to this - anyone been to any before.
What is the future?
Facebook friends Nov 5, 08, 6:26 a.m.
I have sent out some friend requests and boy oh boy do my mates take a long time to accept. I'm thinking that maybe they don't login to facebook that much or their computer has broken or their ISP has gone down. So, when we finally do "become friends" I notice they've madly active all the time. So what gives? Do you sit on a friend request just to see how long someone'll hold out for? I normally deal with them right away, is that just old school?
the apprentice Apr 3, 08, 5:07 a.m.
Last night - why did SAS fire the one who had put the system in place and yet let the project manager off the hook when she was absolutely pants in every way?
If you didn't watch it, it's probably on watch again.
Building a bonfire Nov 5, 08, 6:27 a.m.
Tonight I'm building a bonfire. Do I start small and add to it as it takes, or do I build it big and just chuck a match in?
turnover Sep 11, 08, 6:09 a.m.
Does anyone have any figures for turnover of small businesses? I worked in a small web agency 8 years ago and they turned over about £160K per year - there were about 8 members of staff - I thought the figure was pretty low.
Anyone have any figures for now for web/dev agencies with less than a dozen people on the payroll?
What about freelancers (design/dev) - I figured that £60k pa wouldn't be bad - is that accurate or way off what people are getting/expecting.
site design inspiration Jul 17, 08, 7:27 a.m.
Places to go? Things to see? All I can see at the moment is web 2.0 designs which are nice but not exactly giving me the urge to open up PS and create something wonderful. Links anybody?
