Anyone see the apprentice style design prog last night?
One thing - everyone was using windows not Macs - is that a 3d product thing or just sponsorship. I thought they'd all be Mac-tastic but they were using HP notebooks and win XP.
I liked the show. PS was a like someone off of "'ello, 'ello".

It was good but not too challenging for the participants or indeed for the audience. Starke came across well - better than Sir Allan. Not sure how it will play out.
Starke doesn't like "stuff". Things designed for the sake of it. But that's an easy position when you're a front runner in design. And when everyone notes what you produce.
Everyone else probably just designs "stuff" cause they're wannabe Starkes and they need something to practice on.- The problem is everything he is briefing them on is to be 'designed for the sake of it'set

pc stations can have much more pôwerful setups than macs. the 3d is mainly worked on pc's.

It was interesting. One thing's for sure though — watching designers in a reality TV show is actually pretty boring

I watched it... not bad.
I have always thought that there needs to be a "fly on the wall"/documentary about the design process and philosophies on a major channel.I did however think that a lot of the footage was forced and a tad uncomfortable. Hopefully everyone will relax a bit and the intelligent creative side will come through making for a half decent programme.... still work to do

Did you mean Allo Allo?

Hmm, I'll have to look. Always thought he be an arrogant prick, glad I was wrong.
3D Studio and Autocad only run on PCs. Macs still don't have any production value and when you need to work with other firms, compatibility is also huge.
We use Autodesk products, too, so I'll never switch to a Mac (unless #1 their tech support becomes pro level and #2 3D Studio works on a Mac).
- you never heard of MAYA, right?akrokdesign
- Maya does not have the assets that Max does, nor the industry wide usage.formed

a mac is a mac. a PC is a computer.

I thought this was reasonably interesting (or at least it's got the potential to be).
The one thing that I _CANNOT STAND_ is the narration. There seems to be a trend at the BBC where the programme makers seem intent on providing an narration designed for very stupid people, which describes exactly what the viewer should be thinking, and joining the dots soooo precisely that original though is no longer required while watching their programmes. It's dumbing down to an absolutely insulting level.
Perhaps they've run out of people who can create TV-narrative using video; so they've been _forced_ to sink to the level of stringing video-clips together using this overly verbose narrative. Whatever the reason is I hate it.
- i think, since it is a public broadcaster, they just take responsibility by making it as accessible as possible.freitag
- yeah, maybe you're right .. I think it sometimes goes too far thoughlukus_W
- and I'm sure the 'stupid people' they aim it at actually exist.lukus_W
- *not surelukus_W
- oh they exist!set
- yeah it annoyed me that too when that random dude would say something like....jay_jay
- "a light just come on in the house, someone is awake"...yes, I just saw it, thanks.jay_jay

Lukus has some strong words for the BBC about their narration style. He chooses to air them on popular design forum QBN. He feels quite strongly that the narration style is a measure of dumbing down, and yet he still manages to make a variety of grammatical errors in his post. Meanwhile, 60 miles away, Horp writes a follow up post in the style of a BBC narrator, and wonders if Lukus will get the joke before its revealed in the very last sentence.

Most of the time I think the narration is used as a cheap way to tell story and fill time. It seems a lot of programmes begin with a summary of what happened last time - which can take up to 15 minutes!.. maybe I'm being a grumpy bastard, but I think it's a sign that TV is cheapening even further and ultimately leads to uninteresting programming.
In the case of last nights programme - a lot of the narration was basically repeating back what Philip Starke said. Was it that difficult to understand what he was saying?

Did anyone watch this car crash TV last night? The show was more about PHILIPPE STARCK and his product design. And then we had the final designs, WTF are these people thinking, Lets turn off all the Power and Unplug the world to unit people. and let buy some CDs and other crap and call it a Pregnancy Package.
It was funny to here PHILIPPE STARCK mention in the show he was getting old and wanted people to come up with the design ideas for him, hahahah bloody right he does.
