- Well, 50/50. I can't see how this makes Russia defence look in any way good. Perhaps they've given up on appearing competent though.Nairn

Murder, alcohol and prostitutes: Wagner convicts pardoned by Putin return to terrorise home towns
Violent criminals who served with the notorious Russian militia in Ukraine are terrorising the communities they return toMany are believed to have died in Ukraine, but those who survived the six months in the group’s ranks have earned presidential pardons and are now returning to their home towns. According to the notorious Wagner head Evgeniy Prigozhin, more than 5,000 former criminals have already been freed. One of those is Siukayev who recently returned to his home town of Tskhinvali.
Their releases have stoked fears that the men will go on to commit further crimes, worries that will only grow following a string of violent crimes perpetrated by former Wagner soldiers, including the murder of Ts

Top 10 hedge funds made £1.5bn profit from Ukraine war food price spike
Analysis covering first quarter of last year raises questions over role of speculators in inflating food pricesHedge funds have emerged as some of the biggest winners from the global food price spike that followed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with the world’s 10 biggest hedge funds alone making profits estimated at nearly $2bn.
Analysis of the profits of the top 10 hedge funds for the first quarter of last year shows they are likely to have made about $1.9bn (£1.5bn) from trading in two food commodities, grain and soya beans, in the run-up to and immediate aftermath of the invasion.

Video of Pentagon files leaker's arrest
- Massive US incompetence or a total 5D disinformation move?
Place your bets!Nairn - I shoulda used the word 'gambit' there.
That would've sounded a lot cleverer.Nairn - Assuming the files are legit, why isn't there more outrage about the files' implications?MondoMorphic
- Indeed. Yet again we have a leak showing the inner workings of government yet we focus on the leaker's 'mental health'. More WMD's?Ianbolton

"Putin's paranoia is also shown by the fact he never uses a mobile phone. 'I mean, in all my years of service, I haven't seen him once with a mobile phone,' Karakulov said.
The Russian leader is so concerned about Western bugging that he takes a special box with him on foreign trips to prevent his secret talks from leaking.
'With Putin... he doesn't use the internet or a mobile phone. He only receives information from his closest circle, which means that he lives in an information vacuum,' Karakulov said.
This means his knowledge of events is filtered via the secret services - and what he watches on state controlled Russian TV.
Western analysts have long suspected that Putin has not been receiving accurate reports from his generals and others in his close-knit circle about the situation on the ground in Ukraine, out of fear of his wrath should be be told bad news.
This is demonstrated by his guards, who 'call him the Boss, worship him in every way and only ever talk of him in those terms', according to Karakulov.
Asked if Putin is always in 'lockdown', Karakulov replied: 'Yes, he is. We still have a self-isolating president. We have to observe a strict quarantine for two weeks before any event, even those lasting 15 to 20 minutes.
'There is a pool of employees who have been cleared – who underwent this two-week quarantine. They are [considered] "clean" and can work in the same room as Putin.'
However, asked about rumours of Putin being terminally ill, he appeared unaware of credible information that the dictator has had or still has cancer.
'It was not something my colleagues discussed,' he told Dossier. 'If he has any health issues, they must be due to his age. Well, he probably does have them. But it is nothing too serious, I guess.'"

"No one could say which was the face and which the backside of the idol. According to some, it had a phallus; according to others, it didn't. The temple was surrounded by walls and formed an irregular octagon; in the center of the temple was an empty niche. There, in a subterranean chamber or crypt, was the great and secret god of the temple, the idol whom the hierophants worshiped and whom the people, in their devotion, did not suspect existed. This god was not the stone image, but a castrated and blind man who, through secret and painful channels, reached the minds of the faithful. The rites of the temple were secret; none but the initiated knew what took place in them. The castrated and blind man did not intervene in public affairs, but from his subterranean world (which was also a world of symbols and correspondences) he governed the world above."
