Football is for the fans. Fast! lol

“...football, beer and above all, gambling filled up the horizon of their minds. To keep them in control was not difficult.”

I'd like to see a more localised verison of football come to life where you get the feeling you're actually in Manchester watching Man United rather than sat in some bland, corporate stadium selling Carling. Promote local products, ales and get the feel of the game back on it's feet again.
Fair enough Manchester City have turned that whole area of Manchester around with youth development and now their Woman's team. It's a big business, but we should never lose sight of who our target audience is and what we're trying to achieve.
I live in Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa has brought the spirit of the game back to Elland Road, but there's so much more to do. Is it a reflection on current neoliberal culture and I still don't get why Boris isn't dribbling out of his cock at this Super league bullshit?
I know football isn't for everyone, but it has so much history and relavance on a human/competitive level that it's something we should try to hang on to.
- It’s strange when the owners, players and a big chunk of the fans have little or nothing to do with the historic team and location.Chimp
- I left top level football behind in 2005. I'm an ex-ManUnited supporter and am a first season founder member of FC United. Honestly, I get more out of going...Wolfboy
- ...to see them play than I did from paying through the nose to be a customer at Old Trafford. & the night Benfica brought a side to play, to open the stadium...Wolfboy
- ...we pulled together as members to build ourselves, is the best night I've had in football. Fuck the ESL, fuck Sky/BT/Amazon & fuck the 'big 6' anyway.Wolfboy

Breaking: Boris Johnson met PL chief exec Richard Masters this morning. I understand the PM said that whilst he is a staunch free marketeer, the ESL is ‘anti-competitive’, adding ‘we should drop a legislative bomb to stop it - and we should do it now.’ PL meeting ongoing.
- lol fuck boris johnson
https://twitter.com/…Bluejam - come on be fair, as shankly once said: "some people believe football is a matter of life and death... i can assure you it is much much more important than that"hans_glib

- That would make the German national team very happy.Continuity
- ^yes they want himrenderedred
- I love how the German teams have all said 'nah, we're good' to this whole thingIanbolton
- @renderedred Well, until now, it's been widely assumed Hansi Flick would take over, now that he's fucked FC Bayern off.Continuity
- But now, with this shitty super league and Klopp not being a fan, who knows.Continuity
- @Ianbolton Honestly, I'm actually a bit surprised. I would have imagined RB Leipzig would have been first in line to join, but apparently not.Continuity
- i have nothing but respect for german clubs for saying no.renderedred
- Would I be wrong in assuming that German clubs might still be more 'locally-owned'? Or is it simply a matter certain clubs being popular in Asia/America?Nairn
- Yeah the reason Germans not in is mostly because of the 51% rule that can’t allow Billionaire investors being majority shareholders.NBQ00
- All the 12 clubs taking part in the ESL are either owned by Billionaire investors or deeply indebted.NBQ00
- AFAIK the ESL clubs are promised $350 million per year regardless of performance. WTF. Easy to see why they want this.NBQ00
- @Nairn, for the most part yes. Notable exception is RB Leipzig, which is 99% owned by Red Bull, and was a stink all on its own.Continuity
- Also, Bayer Leverkusen and VfL Wolfsburg, but they're ancient clubs, and RB Leipzig was especially egregious.Continuity
- Thanks, both. Well, there's the problem right there. This country's like fucking USA-lite, but without any of the punching weight.Nairn
- Unfortunately it was just a rumor. He doesn't seem as critical about it as few years ago.NBQ00

I have no idea what I'm talking about, so please let me share my opinion :)
I really like the idea of 60-mins matches, 2x30
If we'd deduct all the fake (or not) injury breaks, VAR checks, substitutions (5 for each team), ball out of play, then we'd get around 120 seconds of pure top-level football per game!
I don't know why they wouldn't go one step further and make games 30 minutes long in total. You could play a whole season within a month, that means new freshly designed jerseys for sale every month, more TV rights to sell = more $$$
Seriously though, If they split from UEFA, FIFA and all that boring amateur stuff, I would love to see matches even 180 minutes long when both teams are on all possible performance enhancing (or not) drugs... Maradona Cup, or something like that
- You’re probably the target group Perez was talking about. Sigh.NBQ00
- do you really think I was being serious? oh dear...rzu-rzu
- well the last part after "seriously though" was serious, interestingly enough :)rzu-rzu
- LOL you are on the money my friendrenderedred

these greedy fucks are the reason champions league is what it is today, I say kick them all out and return to the original format of 1 single champion from each domestic league competing tor the champions league.
Let's return to the days when Celtic, Nottingham Forest, Fyonoord, Steaua Bucureșt, Aston Villa and red Star Belgrade could actually win this fucking thing and not have the same 12 club play each other over and over again ad nauseam.
- Uooh there _niko, we don't want to go back to communism buddy hehe
Romanian football is not that great anymore, but appreciate the thoughtgrafician - yeah but it could be if they were guaranteed money from competing on an equal footing in the CL, and not give 25 spots to 5 leagues._niko
- +100 _niko, but it won't happenrzu-rzu

- Fuck the peasants, we want more money and control. Something, something, football.Chimp
- I so hope every fan will boycott this and nobody watches it. So it collapses immediately. Fuck them.NBQ00
- Football is a social control mechanism. Sadly it's a big part of the life of grown adult men so I doubt it will go anywhere.PhanLo

- To be fair, as a board member that IS your job. It's not a fucking charity. Also, I hate football.Morning_star
- You should be an investor then, Morning Star. You could help destroy the sport you hate.NBQ00
- Does this really surprise anyone?
Also, the people who make Charmin don’t really care about your ass.futurefood - Apples & Oranges. This would destroy the football system (domestic leagues, championships, etc) in Europe as we know it.NBQ00
