Bluesky is getting to the point where it's a viable alternative IMO. There's always a collective action problem in switching to another app or social network because all the people are on the original app and so no one wants to switch over, but I think it's approaching the level where there are enough users that it works.

Just hope they continue to build out the UI and add more features. Right now it's like a clone of Twitter, a little snappier in terms of perfomance but lacking some features such as DMs. Also more difficult than it should be to discover new content and people to follow.

On the positive side though you aren't being bombarded with OnlyFans girls and crypto scammers every ten seconds.

    • The Onlyfans spam accounts on Twitter seem to really like the generative art posts and 1980's animations I post.PhanLo
    • Musk seems to be completely losing it, so shouldn't take that long before everyone that doesn't support Nazis and Trump leaves.formed
    • Yeah those OF accounts are relentless. Are they real or is it AI generated fake porn? I don't understand how "X" can't block spam that follows the same format.yuekit
    • Instagram is the same lately, I keep getting added to crypto and porn groups even though I've blocked all the participants.PhanLo

Ubisoft has 'paused' advertising on Twitter

Ubisoft has confirmed that it has joined other major companies who have paused advertising on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, following a Media Matters report which claims that the platform has been running ads for companies including Apple, IBM, NBCUniversal, and Comcast owner Xfinity next to pro-Nazi content. X denies that regular users will see such ads next to extremist content, claiming that Media Matters intentionally manipulated a feed to produce that result.

The list of companies who have halted activity on X is long and potentially extremely damaging for a platform struggling with a decline in advertising revenues: IBM, Apple, Disney, Warner Bros, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Xfinity, Sony, and others have all opted to stop running ads, at least temporarily.

Paris Hilton's entertainment company is suspending an advertising campaign on X, according to CNN, expanding the list of companies fleeing the social platform after billionaire Elon Musk's recent tweet endorsing an antisemitic conspiracy theory.

The move by 11:11 Media to distance itself from X, formerly known as Twitter, comes only a month after the companies announced an exclusive partnership that would include live video and commerce. X CEO Linda Yaccarino in October welcomed Hilton to the "@X family," tweeting: "The queen of pop culture, music, business and TV is #Sliving on X."

    • He's very forgiving towards certain political viewpoints but then when someone criticizes him he'll sue them using his influence with GOP politicians.yuekit
    • Anyway free speech is guaranteed at least in USA by the First Amendment. We're talking about policies of an individual site.yuekit
    • Musk seems to want to turn Twitter into Gab or 4Chan. That's up to him since he paid $40 billion for it but expecting these big brands to embrace a site thatyuekit
    • promotes alt-right disinfo is knd of strange isn't it? Freedom of speech is a thing but so is freedom of association.yuekit

    • @yeukit, you never explained who should be making the decision as to what is and isn't censored. Should we also censor those who promote communism?Morning_star
    • There’s not really censorship involved here. “X” already promised advertisers they don’t show ads next to extremist/racism content.yuekit
    • Media Matters pointed out correctly this doesn’t actually work. Elon Musk got mad and is trying to sue them.yuekit
    • Also a key point: Musk doesn't have the cajones to go for the companies that negged him, just Media Matters.garbage

Elon Musk Trolls His Way Into the OpenAI Drama

Elon Musk cofounded OpenAI but left after his own failed coup. Now he has shared an unsigned letter containing unverified accusations against the recently fired CEO, Sam Altman.

ELON MUSK NEEDED fewer than 100 characters to add new chaos to the ongoing crisis swirling around OpenAI after the shock firing of CEO Sam Altman last week.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Musk drew attention to an anonymous letter accusing Altman of various examples of underhanded behavior as CEO of OpenAI.

The link shared by Musk was to a copy of the letter uploaded to GitHub, a resource for sharing code. That copy of the letter was removed less than an hour after Musk posted it. Sources with knowledge of Altman's tenure at OpenAI told WIRED they were not familiar with the accusations. Altman did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

STOCKHOLM, Nov 17 (Reuters) - Dockworkers in Sweden pledged on Friday to refuse to offload Tesla (TSLA.O) cars at any of the country's ports as they expanded their industrial action in sympathy with Tesla workers' demands for collective bargaining agreements.

Tesla, co-founded by billionaire Elon Musk, does not manufacture in Sweden, but its electric cars are serviced by more than 120 mechanics affiliated with Swedish union IF Metall, which began a strike on Oct. 27.

Apple pulls its ads from X after Musk’s antisemitic posts

Apple has reportedly followed IBM by pulling advertising from X, formerly Twitter, as the platform’s owner Elon Musk made posts agreeing with antisemitic conspiracy theories, supporting white pride, and continued a fight with the Anti-Defamation League.

Axios cites unnamed sources in a report that Apple is pausing advertising on X, and the list is growing — later on Friday, the New York Times reported Disney would pause advertising on X, while CNBC noted the same for Warner Bros. Discovery. Paramount and Comcast / NBCUniversal have paused their ads as well, Axios says in a separate report.

IBM suspends ads on X after corporate ads appeared next to pro-Nazi content

IBM (IBM.N) on Thursday said it had immediately suspended all advertising on Elon Musk-owned X after a report found its ads were placed next to content promoting Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.

The report comes a day after Musk endorsed an antisemitic post on X that falsely claimed members of the Jewish community were stoking hatred against white people.

Media watchdog Media Matters said it found that corporate advertisements by IBM, Apple (AAPL.O), Oracle (ORCL.N) and Comcast's (CMCSA.O) Xfinity were being placed alongside antisemitic content.

Elon Musk to file ‘thermonuclear lawsuit’ as advertisers desert X
Social media firm boss says he will sue media watchdog that said ads were being placed alongside antisemitic content

Media watchdog Media Matters said earlier this week that it found corporate advertisements by IBM, Apple, Oracle and Comcast’s Xfinity were being placed alongside antisemitic content, including that praising Adolf Hitler and the Nazis.

It led to a number of big names in technology and media announcing they would be withdrawing their advertising. It also included Warner Brothers, Paramount and Disney.

“The split second court opens on Monday, X Corp will be filing a thermonuclear lawsuit against Media Matters and ALL those who colluded in this fraudulent attack on our company,” Musk said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Degeneration X: “Musk has created a safe space for racists”
A new study shows that out of 200 sampled posts that include antisemitism, Holocaust denial, incitement against Muslims and Palestinians, etc.,196 (98%) remain available on the social network. These posts have collectively received more than 24 million views

The social network X (formerly Twitter) has not removed 98% of the posts that include antisemitism, incitement to violence against Jews, Holocaust denial and incitement against Muslims and Palestinians, and which were reported to it in the first week of November - according to a report by the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) published yesterday.
"Elon Musk has created a safe space for racists," CCDH founder and CEO Imrad Ahmed said in a press release. "This is the inevitable result of cutting security and content monitoring teams, inviting previously blocked hateful actors to return to the platform, and giving greater visibility to anyone who agrees to pay $8 a month
