Website Speed Question

I did a Wordpress site for a client. Created it on my test server first. Load time was fine for the size. Moved it to client's hosting. Now it loads super slow. I've run it through some speed test sites to see where it's hanging up and it's all "wait" time at the beginning. I am not an advanced developer but I suspect it's their hosting, but I am also not confident enough to say that this is for certain the problem. Does anyone have any advice on how to troubleshoot this?

If you have a lot of hangup time in the beginning it's almost certainly your web host. You truly get what you pay for in the world of web hosting.
For WordPress sites these days I recommend WP Engine. The clients I host on there have no issues with load times or stability of service.
I'm actually a developer partner of theirs and I can get you a discount if you want to sign up with them.

also add super cache or one of those if you didn't so it is less taxing on the server for each page load. Wordpress thread is good resource for opinions. http://www.qbn.com/topics/701332…

wp-engine is a great host for WP sites

Run it through here:
...it will give you a detailed breakdown of the page load so you can see where is starts chugging.

You could try running your DNS through cloudflare. They cache and serve via a CDN which may be faster than your host. They offer a free tier but i'm not certain about performance with that. Worth a try.

after some tweaks on a standard wordpress site you can get a gtmetrix score of 95-100% for pagespeed and yslow using media temples hosting... i just moved last month and its been great

Go to Cloudways.com and set up a temporary instance. It will cost you like $7 or less if you keep it for the month. Copy the site there and do a pingdom test. Compare their server with cloud ways. Tell them their server sucks.
