Hey gang, which timesheet/project management tools do you have at work that you like? We're looking to upgrade and want something modern, we're basically in a text based piece of crap right now!
Should be able to handle a company of 50+, it's not just for freelancing =)
thanks!

stay away from the devil (Clarizen)

To start thread #1627 on the subject, the two you will likely get most are Harvest (getharvest.com) and qbn'r sublocked's CashBoard (http://cashboardapp.com/)

We use this abomination called TROI at work. I've never seen such a user-unfriendly PM/time-keeping app. It's abysmal.

I posted Toggl and recommend it because it's what I'm using at work (on my own, not mandated by anyone) and for freelance work on the side. I'm using the free version, which is more than enough for tracking time easily. The subscription version is aimed toward full companies as I believe it helps track finances, but so far I haven't found a need to use that. Toggl is cross platform and device (desktop, mobile and web are synced perfectly, always) and the reports it spits out are incredibly useful. I can easily show someone how much I worked on their project in any period of time, down to the smallest task, instantly, and beautifully.
Here's the thing though. No matter how user friendly, easy, powerful the system is that you use, it's only as good as what you put into it. You could have the full version of Toggl and completely fuck up if you start skipping time entries.
No matter if you're using a notebook and pencil or a standalone enterprise level app, time tracking is always best if you train people to actually do it, which isn't always that easy when people get busy.
- The last paragraph is so true. The best, most easy-to-use app will be balls-out useless if people couldn't be arsed to use it.Continuity
- Sorry for the rant, but this is something I've been struggling with. I got so busy I didn't record time for a month, and now I have to figure out what I did.monospaced
- If we're honest, all of us are probably too lazy to keep our time.Continuity
- I find it's a lot harder to catch up than keep up with timesheets so I make notes all the time.zarkonite

We use ProjectHelp now. When I joined there were about 35 people and we filled in our sheets in a broken-ass FileMaker template that constantly shit the bed when more than four people accessed it.
Now we're up to 80+ folk and all our timesheet stuff is handled online via a browser login and managed by some brainiacs in Norway. It seems to be almost infinitely customisable and you can jump between weeks to make edits and changes.

Another one to stay away from is brightpod. We use it at my place and it is awful, really disruptive to workflow but it seems that we're stuck with it.

We use Clarizen and the entire company was trained the the fullest extent possible to use it. The project managers are the ones who really need to use it constantly, the rest of us on the UX and creative teams really just use it to log time and expense sheets.
What I hate the most is that you can't create an expense sheet template like we could on a previous application. I go the same place once or twice a week to work on site with a client. Every single week I have to log those trips, no ability to duplicate a previous expense sheet. Have to choose project code, department, state the distance, have to set the reimbursement amount myself, choose the reviewer (my boss). It's crazy beyond belief.

I'm forced to used this thing:
http://www.advantagehosted.com/
It's the worst and least user-friendly tool I've ever used.

- Oh Christ, that's Citrix, isn't it? I had to use that at another agency, I fucking, fucking, fucking hated it.Continuity

We use teambox.ch
Not bad.(Still 207 days not recorded yet...)

We used this...

Jira was the most comprehensive and least offensive option I've used for project tacking... https://www.atlassian.com/softwa…
It's a bit overkill IMO but developers love it for tracking issues. It also records time so you don't have to.
One thing it did do, expose the incompetence of managers. Tasks would get done and build up in review or get rejected because of insufficient info.
If like me, your experience of most PMs was to simply forward client emails without consideration, this product is for you.

We're an agency of 50+ and use "Traffic"
https://www.deltek.com/en/produc…
Has it's issues but it's pretty integral to our workflow now - we have a dedicated traffic manager too.

Just shuddered on reading the thread title :/

About a year ago the software I was using Crisply shut down, it was great, it analysed your gmail and calendar to automatically compile a suggested timesheet for the day and all you needed to do was update it or adjust where necessary. I've then switched to Harvest for my team of six and didn't find it did anything special and very time consuming to update and manage.
Anyone tried https://www.tickspot.com/ or https://www.timecamp.com/ ?
