The biggest problem is people are proud of ignorance. They are proud that they voted with no idea why they voted for. They are proud of being dumb.

The stereotype of the whining Pom is going to be so fucking reinforced once Boris dismantles the NHS and all the things which you take for granted and sells them all to the Americans
Good luck doubling down on your retarded referendum fucko.. Boris will be the worst thing that happened to your country since the plague
- Not say Corbyn was the answer, just to say Boris definitely wasn’tautoflavour
- Ohhh yes. And the ones who moved to Aus will whinge even more cos it’s also fucked! Maybe that’s just me.MrT
- ha MrT, I had that exact conversation with someone y'day.fadein11

Something interesting I haven't heard anyone in the media mention.
In this landslide election for the Conservatives that reaffirmed Brexit, if you add up the actual vote totals, I'm seeing that the left-wing (pro remain) parties got over 50%?
While the Tories plus Brexit party around 45%.
https://www.bbc.com/news/electio…
Am I reading that right? Tallying up the absolute number of votes isn't how the system works of course but seems noteworthy given the narrative out there about populism, will of the people, etc.
- Can't assume everyone voted along brexit lines. Also Labour were proposing a referendum rather than remain - the only route left to a 'softer brexit'Fax_Benson
- Maybe although it would match the polling pretty well which shows a 5% majority for remain: https://whatukthinks…yuekit
- Not that it matters now of course :)yuekit
- Never understood why the "popular" vote meant anything in democratic politics. There are 9 million people in London alone. About 1/7th of the whole country.Khurram
- And yeah, they all wanted to remain.Khurram
- FPTP is a bullshit electoral model.i_monk
- So you think London should decide for the rest of the country? That's your problem right there, in your "Hackney bubble" lolKhurram
- Scheer would be our prime minister right now if it was by popular vote.Gnash
- In 5 years, if this site is still going, it'll be good to list all the infrastructure changes in the dead towns that voted for Brexit to see if it's worth it.PhanLo
- Remember the Northern powerhouse shite the Tories used to jibber about. Yep , fuck all happened with that.PhanLo
- Gnash – Trudeau would likely have a majority in an IRV/AV/STV style system.i_monk
- True. What ever happened to trudeau’s promise to revamp the electoral system?Gnash

This is good on the left wing bubble
- https://mobile.twitt…Gnash
- lolFax_Benson
- Good read. But the Guardian never backed Corbyn's Labour in any way. By far the opposite. And opinion pieces only ever feel like an tokenfadein11
- offering to the few on the left who still consider it a voice for them.fadein11
- lol at the Guardian being left-wing media.fadein11
- ya, ash is obviously a neolib Fascist mouthpieceGnash
- not at all, not even remotely saying that. Just stating facts. The Guardian never backed Corbyn from day one.fadein11
- The vast majority of Guardian output from day one was anti-corbyn. I've witnessed the meltdowns over their 'betrayal' 100's of times.fadein11
- the clue is in 'opinion pieces', aside from Owen Jones, the paper recognised the danger of Momentum, Corbyn and the takeover of the party from day 1.fadein11
- You’re dark blue, I assume
https://d25d2506sfb9…Gnash - Anti-Corbyn doesn’t mean right-wing. The guy was toxicGnash
- yougov lolfadein11
- Yup. Dark blueGnash
- Trust me, the Corbyn movement felt hugely betrayed by the Guardian. They are a different beast these days. Read about the editor Vinerfadein11
- I never supported Corbyn. I agree he was toxic. But far less toxic than Johnson. But I know you lean right, I lean left. We are likely to agree.fadein11
- As you know when Brits comment on N.American politics like I have in the past, it's way more complex than the little picture you get from afar.fadein11
- unlikely to agree*fadein11
- I don’t lean right. I’ve supported either NDP or liberal in every election where I’m from. Never been tempted to vote con in my lifeGnash
- that yougov graph based on people's perceptions isn't a great source. Conservatives feel the BBC is left biased which is utterly ridiculous.fadein11
- is there anything the Corbyn movement doesn't feel betrayed by? You could tell they were upset - by reading and listening to themFax_Benson
- The Guardian shares a lot of left related stories but few were in support of this flavour of Labour and that is a fact not an opinion.fadein11
- in the Guardian, on the BBC, on Sky news...Fax_Benson
- I agree. Butthurt is the term.fadein11
- The guardian obviously leans left. To deny that is just silly. Yes, they’re not the New Worker, but they are anything but right wingGnash
- But that's not what we are discussing here. The Guardian never backed Corbyn. If you can prove me wrong I would love to see evidence.fadein11
- “Lol at the Guardian being left-wing...”Gnash
- I found this article interesting on the same site. https://unherd.com/2…yuekit
- Yes they lean left, I just said they never backed Corbyn from day one. The output for the past few years has been massively anti-Corbyn and pro the other end offadein11
- the party.fadein11
- @gnash, fair enough. Good for you.fadein11
- Talks about the need to create a more culturally conservative left-wing movement. He doesn't really sketch out the economic side though.yuekit
- Again, I don’t think ‘anti-Corbyn’ means what you think it meansGnash
- I didn’t see many puff pieces about Boris in the guardian. Perhaps I missed thoseGnash
- @gnash, yes lol @ the guardian being left wing. It is centrist/centre left. Consdering everyone thinks Corbyn is radical on here I would say centre left.fadein11
- Perhaps we have different definitions of left-wing.fadein11
- @yuekit, that was interesting as wellGnash
- Not forgetting that few of the voters lost would read the Guardian anyway. The Mirror is a better example in this instance. And was far more pro Corbyn.fadein11
- to be fair, they were clearly anti Corbyn by the end. Corbynistas never looked at why beyond 'it's a neo-lib' conspiracy. And they kept Jones, SarkarFax_Benson
- and had regular pro opinion piecesFax_Benson
- yup.fadein11
- And I would say always were anti-Corbyn aside from like you say the odd opinion piece and Owen Jones who did v.little to help the cause.fadein11
- The problem with this article is its also caught in a left-wing echo chamber.fadein11
- I do think you're underestimating how far left he and some of his crew are, though.Fax_Benson
- I don't doubt there are elements of Momentum, unions, membership who are batshit left crazy but it was hard to find anything batshit left crazy in the manifestofadein11
- the last one was 'optimistic'. this one was insane.Fax_Benson
- That's how mad it's got here, policies that function perfectly well and are the norm across much of Europe are now considered insane here. Remove the ideologyfadein11
- and momentum mafia, there was little to be that concerned about. Especially when as a normal person you realise no party delivers on the majority of electionfadein11
- promises. But would love to hear some examples of what you think was insane.
Gotta love the tories though, few days in and already backtracked on all theirfadein11 - election winning carrots.fadein11
- 'election winning' is prob more appropriate.fadein11
- Can't get into it in the notes but you can't go from a decade of austeity to all those policy promises in one go and expect people to take you seriouslyFax_Benson
- It was over ambitious for sure. Sorry I thought you meant an actual policy being insane.fadein11
- Free hospital parking is awesome. I wish we had that here, I spent a small fortune when my daughter was sick.Gnash
- zzzzzzzfadein11
- apologies if you were being serious, thought you may be trolling.fadein11
- 3x/week for a year and a half. She’s all good now, though. CheersGnash
- my bad... glad to hear she is better now.
will be v.surprised if the tories follow through on that election carrot though.fadein11

Millionaire Pro-Brexit Conservative donors buy Cypriot (EU) citizenship before brexit deal goes through.
- what a fucking surpriseBluejam
- really boils my piss. If you think brexit is the best option, fair enough. But you shouldn't be allowed to step foot in the EU ever again.Fax_Benson

The queen said this year was a bumpy ride.
I know her mad husband crashed his Land Rover into a family because he's a stubborn old bastard.
But her son Andrew was outed as being good friends with a serial pedo. Much like Charles was with Jimmy Saville.Bit more than a bumpy ride.
Folk almost seem to have forgotten already, we really do live in a fuckin Noddy Land.

- I read the "greenies" were responsible. The Aus Gov bent over for Eco-politics resulted in not controlling land overgrowth, thanks Greta!robotron3k
- You read some BS robo. The Aus gov doesn’t listen to anyone, in particular the greenies who don’t even demand no backburning.MrT

"MPs have voted against Amendment 4 to Clause 37 of the European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill, by 348 votes to 252.
This would have protected the right for unaccompanied child refugees to be reunited with their family after Brexit."
