is it an invented trend or are there advantages to a mech keyboard? i always thought the flatter, newer keyboards were better because they had shorter keystrokes and took less effort to use...
is it just a style thing?
- this vid helped me understand this https://www.youtube.…bezoar
- more customizations. i saw some some $200 single key caps. wtf.bezoar

I'm not sure how ergonomically designed that keyboard is, but it looks crazy cool.

i've used strictly apple keyboards, mostly because it was included. i didn't mind the button action and by god, steve jobs said it was good. there was a bit of this on http://www.qbn.com/topics/685489… .
Been lookin to score something from http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/

Corsair K70 w/ Cherry MX Browns FTW!
Get RGB for instant disco. I also like the DAS Keyboard for the geek factor and the little happy hacking ones. The Corsair is my fav so far because it is built like a tank and doesnt look to gaming, like the logitech G910.. But for basic work without a lot of typing you don't need a mech. Apple Keyboards suck as much as any other rubberdome ghosting crap.
Once you go clack...
Mech keyboards have different switches, mostly by cherry; Brown, Red, Blue, and Black and White. They behave differently and go from "very silent" to "your neighbour is gonna kill you"

Anyone into mechanical keyboards these days?
I've been wanting to try one out. Part for the nostalgia factor, but mostly for the fact that while I've gotten used to the tiny Apple chiclet keys, I've never really liked them.
I recently picked up an older Apple A1048 keyboard to try out, but it's not mechanical and I'm loving the action on it either.

I have a Steelseries mech. keyboard with Cherry MX Black keys. Built like a tank and super-responsive - but - it makes too much noise in my new apartment especially when i'm working so I think i'm going to go full-on rainbow mental and get the Corsair RGB MX Silent - while not entirely quiet, it doesn't have the CLACK CLACK CLACK my current board has.
- you go full-on rainbow, don't let anyone stop you from being you...omg
- I think I will, because, unlike you I don't have a pathetic and irrational fear of colour.face_melter
- I've heard good things of topre switches. supposed to be quiet and feedback is nice. a bit pricey $200+dorf

I got this 80% Varmilo keyboard with brown switches that I really like.
They also have a premium customization option on their website where you can chose the colour of each keycap, if you want it to be wireless or not etc.

Years ago I attempted to make my own skull keycaps. I had traded some mold work to one of my clients to sculpt a low-relief skull on a blank and experimented with some different resins. The plan was to pour layers of different resin colors or make the eyes glow in a simple mold. Then I stepped away from design and couldn't justify the time and effort on the project. Still fun though.
http://imgur.com/rZC30IBI recently came across this process video on making double shot keycaps. A bit advanced and very cool.

Got a GMMK Glorious keyboard, cherry brown switches and a set of DSS Dolch keyset from pimpmykeyboard.com
took a minute to get used to it especially after using a Mac magic keyboard for ages, but to be honest, its actually so nice once you get the hang of it.
also it just looks fucking dope
