Even if you don't blame the 5 officers for not being able to subdue the one man,
And even if you believe the story that the dude really did grab the cop's gun,
the cop who somehow allows a guy who has got 5 dudes on him to get ahold of his gun (which is holstered so as to not permit anyone but the officer to draw it) should be considered incompetent for even permitting it to happen. I'm sure they are supposed to be trained to prevent that from happening in a physical scuffle.
- not to defend the officers here, but we have no idea what really happend here. we cant see anything.benfal99

yup, that's the point - how incompetent must you be to let a "dangerous suspect" grab your gun? How horrible must your training be to even let that be in the realm of possibilities??
They did look scared after. I'll bet that it was one nervous idiot and they all regroup to defend him. Ridiculous.
Someone gets killed, someone should answer for it. Someone fires more than once and there better be one hell of a clear danger, not some "oh, he was reaching for a gun". He was unarmed, and if he did get armed, that was also the officer's fault.
Crazy crazy. Something really has to change.

When in doubt, just kill

How's that second amendment travelling fuckers?

I guess you're allowed to record the police and call them names. Pretty wild scene.
- It's called freedom, look it up.ORAZAL
- Damn straight we are.monospaced

The homeless guy must have grabbed one of their guns. I mean, why else would a cop want to shoot a guy in that situation, and with so many officers around him? They all stood back after with a "did that just fucking happen" frozen stance. It's fucked-up which ever way you look at it and really sad to see.
- I can think of many reasons why an LAPD cop might shoot a homeless black man.monospaced
- Why? Let's not forget we're talking about this video thoughgoldieboy
- one reason is he fucking hates homeless people and just fucking wants to kill them, and that's why he's a copmonospaced
- or he's seriously trigger-happy in general, and his red flags were ignored through training and on-the-job reviewsmonospaced
- or the culture of the LAPD, their outrageous racism and hate, and its pressure just got to himmonospaced
- for that video, specifically, because he's a fucking pussy and also probably really, really, REALLY unintelligentmonospaced
- ... right. So much insight.goldieboy
- Those are possible reasons! Are they not? They explain tons of shitty cop murders.monospaced
- There are many reasons behind cops misusing and abusing power.monospaced
- I was referring to this one case... Not a generalisation of the LAPD. It's a question you won't be able to answer so no worriesgoldieboy

Easy solution to this problem. Don't fight with the police.
- 20020
The man continues to scuffle with four of the officers, even after he's wrestled to the ground. One of the officers is heard saying "Drop the gun. Drop the gun."
Then, at least one of the officers opens fire on the man, who remained on the ground with at least two officers near him.

- stander police procedure. yell "drop the gun" before firing. does the guy have a gun? irrelevant.pango
- i think he might have taken one of the cop's guns during the struggle.2002
- You can't just "take" a cops gun. Highly doubt it.bklyndroobeki
- of course you can... if a cop can get their gun out so can anyone else.Amicus
- organicgrid0
He was black and homeless...I am sure no one will give two FCK&$#
- SteveZissou0
Did he grab a gun or was that just police bs? Is shooting him understandable or outright murder?...It's really hard to see from this mobile phone camera angle...
- 20020
body cam - we need this
- BusterBoy0
Call it victim blaming...call it what you like. But in the environment over there, why would you continue to struggle when you're outnumbered 9 to 1?
- he did nothing wrong.bklyndroobeki
- < Not saying he deserved to die for it, but punching a cop in the face is normally wrong dude.SteveZissou
- OK, if he did nothing wrong, why would you carry on like that? Stupid. Possibly mentally ill?BusterBoy
- Who the fuck would want to be a cop now? And fuck knows, we need them.BusterBoy
- could be mental issue.pango
- wait... was he white? if he was white then its gotta be mental issue.pango

What could be a potentially respected and relevant profession has been infested and transformed into the anus of America. somehow these positions of responsibility have been relegated to the lowest trash on this earth. I'm sure they could have handled it with more grace in their approach, especially dealing with individuals already down on their luck. Lets find more dumb fucks to give our tax $ money, to who they themselves deserve to be beaten for the assholes that they are..

There really needs to be some real training on how to deescalate a situation. Throwing violence is only going to make matters worse, overall, and shooting is just ridiculous. Unless there is an imminent danger to people, lethal force is inexcusable.
If a police offer can only kill to "solve" a situation, how is that any good for anyone? Certainly doesn't make anyone respect or trust the police. I'd be surprised if these acts don't continue to make more of a divide and cause more violence.
- I think it would be possible with people who have capacity to think and feel like humans.yurimon
- I think most of it is training. Budget cuts and lack of education/training is behind most of theseformed
- maybe. if you compare cops now to older gen. seems like shedding of brain cells in comparison.yurimon
- seems like the cops of today would only find jobs as bouncers at strip clubs if that.yurimon
- maybe work in a pizza shop,yurimon
- maybe, but that's society's fault and still an issue of education and trainingformed
- I think these guys become cops so that they CAN kill.monospaced

The police profession is a bit of a quagmire.
It's kind of funny when people like yurimon condemn the profession ... basically saying Police need to be better than the rest of humanity, work a very difficult job, and make little money doing it.
The job is what the government makes it. It should, ideally, incorporate elements of medical and social work, and pay much better. But it doesn't. So you get the only people who are willing to take on such a job for the quality of pay and training, and this is what you end up with.
