It's pretty easy to fear monger people against voting for independence. Just point out all the unknowns, even if it is something that would only ever be determined by negotiations following the vote itself.
Meanwhile you have all the powers that be - politicians, corporations, etc - lobbying against change. No one likes uncertainty, it's bad for business.

We had 2 referendum for independence in Quebec :
In 1995
Yes - 2,308,360 = 49.42%
No- 2,362,648 = 50.58%In 1980
Yes - 1,485,852 = 40.44%
No - 2,187,991 = 59.56%Both times, fear of the unknown has made people vote NO... People who wanted to vote YES initially. And the NO campaign were campaign of fear, it worked.
I really hope Scotland will not go the same path as us.
"The death of a nation takes time and it hurts"
- LOL, they were asking trick questions and still couldn't win. Democracy has spoken, Quebec NEVER wanted to separatezarkonite
- The separatist parties have been thrown out by the people, it's just a bunch of xenophobes left trying to stomp on immigrants.zarkonite
- I'm pretty much dying of laughter over here.Continuity

Wasn't the oil a big part of the separatist argument? What happens now that those with the oil on their land want to stick it with England? Do you think the separatists would have enough integrity to let them do so and go their separate way?

As if England would let go of things just like that... Please, you have too much faith in the "democratic process." In case you didn't know it's the one counting the votes that's making the call not the people.
- You do know its not over right? they could still win a YES vote. Only the ones with the oil have said NO so far lolsem

So how are the votes counted? Is it the total number of votes or is it by district? The BBC is announcing results such as ""No" wins by 10,544 to 9,195." for every area as if it were a winner take all system?

One of the best record labels ever, when it comes to indie music, comes from Scotland: Postcard.
We always liked to say that a certain band was edited by Postcard from Scotland.
One would never say just Postcard.
Postcard from Scotland.
Beautiful.

I think it's pretty clearly going to be no based on the polls. A 4-6 percent difference doesn't sound like much, but that's a pretty big gap in a country of millions of people.

"It has not escaped the notice of us, your cousins from across the seas, that much of the case made by the Scottish Yes campaign is neatly described by our fuzzy 1980 question. “Sovereignty” but maintaining “an economic association”? Check. A new country, but also a plan to “negotiate a new agreement” with the old nation? Check. A Yes vote portrayed as promising co-operation rather than a severing of ties? Check. And the idea that you can leave but keep the currency? Sorry, we’ve heard this song before."
