Just asked a doctor friend:
if it isn't dumb and you still can move it, it is probably not broken.
just tape it to the next finger and wait 4-6 weeks.
you can take some ibuprofen to make healing faster, to reduce the inflammation.

Sounds like you broke it.

- get into the recovery position
- make sure airways are clear
- ask yourself how many fingers you're holding up (try not to cheat - also, best to keep it under 10, given the circumstances).
- try to remain calm
- resist the temptation to sleep
- when you're feeling up to it, fashion yourself a splint from a pencil and some rubber bands.

did this often playing basketball and few times in kung fu.
i usually yank on it...the finger...a few times, right after it happens.
my dad told me to do this as a kid to realign everything, not sure it works.then same as above. ice it, keep moving it even though its all fucked.
- antihistamines and painkillers if they're available.
dirtydesign - if you have a chipped bone or break, moving it is the WORST you could do for itmonospaced

Find an "Urgent Care" facility or a "Minute Clinic" near you. They are relatively inexpensive, very accessible and popping-up all over the country...as an alternative to the hospital and or emergency room. If you do not have insurance and or do not want to visit an emergency room, the urgent care clinics usually have either a physician and or nurse practitioner on staff.
- my father has been an urgent care doc for decades, and this is all truemonospaced

really?? REALLY?
man it up dude....
maybe its a sign you are getting on a bit... lol
only kidding, like the others have advised, ice, painkillers, and i am sure you'll be all good....

Could easily be a chipped or small break/fracture too. The only way to tell is to see a doc.

Is there really no way to have a doc look at it for 5 mins and tell you what to do in this country?
- i would never go to a dr for a jammed fingerdoesnotexist
- but if you wanted to and have no insurance, really no way?mekk
- even if you have insurance, this can be either costly or useless or both, as it's outside their expertise...vaxorcist
- I'd try to find a sports medicine person, like somebody who's a high school football coach,etc...vaxorcist
- did you just say something as stupid as a jammed finger is out of the expertise of a regular doc? are you retarded?monospaced
- yes, it is, I am not retarted, I went to see my doc, he said the jammed finger would heal itself... and it didn't for a long time...vaxorcist
- time, my swim team coach told me a few things to do and it healed much faster... my doc was too cerebral...vaxorcist
- that's because it was diagnosed as a jammed finger... but that is not the case heremonospaced
- I'm pretty sure it's a sprain/jamcannonball1978
