So I stubbed/bent my pinky playing sports. It was pretty swollen, and still is a week in.. It's only a little sore and I can use it still but it won't close all the way. Like, I can't make a fist with it. Anyone else ever jam their finger this way?

first: make an ice pack (a plastic bag with ice and another on top of it + a small towel to prevent sking burn) put it on your finger
keep it for 20 min then let it rest 5 then keep it another 20try to move your finger?
>> not working
open your hand flat on a surface and try to see if where it hurt and if there's a small misalignment
>> nothing in particular: make a new ice page and repeat step one,
if by the end of the day you still can't move it, go see a doc>> if your finger seems odd: go see a doctor
(source: I played lots of volleyball)

Every thing seems in order it just doesnt close the final 10% of the way, as if the tendons are too short or super stiff. I can do it with my other hand but it feels like I am stretching.
- maybe I just lost flexibility or somethingcannonball1978
- it's serious bruising causing the lack of motion, and possibly worse... just see a doc... pony up pleasemonospaced
- Not bruised, just swollen tendons.cannonball1978

i've done that quite a few times
ice helps, but it'll go away eventually
try some ibuprofen, it will bring down inflammation

Normal. Same thing happend to at kung fu classes. Your finger won't be normal until about 4 to 7 weeks.

Is there really no way to have a doc look at it for 5 mins and tell you what to do in this country?
- i would never go to a dr for a jammed fingerdoesnotexist
- but if you wanted to and have no insurance, really no way?mekk
- even if you have insurance, this can be either costly or useless or both, as it's outside their expertise...vaxorcist
- I'd try to find a sports medicine person, like somebody who's a high school football coach,etc...vaxorcist
- did you just say something as stupid as a jammed finger is out of the expertise of a regular doc? are you retarded?monospaced
- yes, it is, I am not retarted, I went to see my doc, he said the jammed finger would heal itself... and it didn't for a long time...vaxorcist
- time, my swim team coach told me a few things to do and it healed much faster... my doc was too cerebral...vaxorcist
- that's because it was diagnosed as a jammed finger... but that is not the case heremonospaced
- I'm pretty sure it's a sprain/jamcannonball1978

it happened to me a lot when i played basketball. it takes a week to two for it to become flexible as it was.

Could easily be a chipped or small break/fracture too. The only way to tell is to see a doc.

Find an "Urgent Care" facility or a "Minute Clinic" near you. They are relatively inexpensive, very accessible and popping-up all over the country...as an alternative to the hospital and or emergency room. If you do not have insurance and or do not want to visit an emergency room, the urgent care clinics usually have either a physician and or nurse practitioner on staff.
- my father has been an urgent care doc for decades, and this is all truemonospaced

did this often playing basketball and few times in kung fu.
i usually yank on it...the finger...a few times, right after it happens.
my dad told me to do this as a kid to realign everything, not sure it works.then same as above. ice it, keep moving it even though its all fucked.
- antihistamines and painkillers if they're available.
