Just curious...how old are you that you don't have insurance?

Jammed my finger a month or so ago -- the nail is all black and is starting to fall off. Gross mutant freak I am right now.

Funny how you guys are all mad at me for not having insurance at 35. While it's true that it's "irresponsible", I agree that the doctor wouldn't help me. I'm in SF so clinics are few and far between, and even if I did get insurance for this, it would take too long. I think what I would benefit most from is sort of sports physical therapist. I just asked because I'm sure you guys have done the same and experienced some loss of flexibility.
The inner flexor near the first joint of my pinky was hyperextended when the pinky bent left. I pulled on it immediately and it felt straight, but swelled up. The swelling has since subsided. I could have a hairline fracture but I seriously doubt it since there is no bruising and it doesn't feel "broken". It just doesn't bend past a certain point when making a fist without effort.

if it was broken it would still be swollen and hurt like a bitch
i've jammed my finger many times. if it's particularly painful to bend i get one of those finger support things with the bendy aluminum and foam padding. it does take some time. a doctor's visit is a little extreme, imo.
insurance is for babies

if you are playing sports on a regular or bike daily... it's good to CYA.
get a finger splint, and heat (nuke a bag of rice in an old sock) maybe?still swollen after 1 week though is why i suggested a doc.
ooph good luck!
