$1.99 a month v $9.99 a month for 100gb
You can get a 1TB for $9.99 with google drive!
What are your thoughts? Pros and cons?
Also, Im trying to solve the below problem:
Id like to use the service for essentially a archive folder and a work in progress folder.
My MBP will NOT be able to have all the files synced as the computers drive isnt big enough.
Can you tell the 'archive' folder just to keep the files in the sky and NOT sync to your laptop.
If I need to go into the archive - I could enter via a link...
Make sense?

They're very similar. If you use Google Apps or Gmail for your email, I'd use Drive, otherwise I personally like Dropbox better. In both you can set whether to sync or not sync a directory, so you can decide whether to sync an archive folder on both services.

You can probably access the files without syncing. You likely just have to delete the GDrive app from your computer and access the account via the browser.
I do it with dropbox in order to have two dropbox accounts running. One is my personal dropbox that I use for most things and is a folder on my computer, the other is a paid dropbox account that a bunch of friends share for stuff. The 2nd dropbox account is too big for my HD, so I just login via the website and grab stuff as I need it.
As for Google Drive, I'd say you can probably do this, too. But, I'd suggest that you buy yourself a 1TB external drive (less than $100) and use that to store your files. Then, sync the external drive to your Google Drive. Then you have a local copy and the gdrive copy. Safer and easier to deal with, plus the uploads MIGHT be faster through the app than through the web.

That pricing is bananas. I'd consider switching if Drive's syncing worked better. I absolutely require that syncing work 100% across every system, and Drive has in the past been very flakey in that regard. I'll gladly pay more for less storage (I only use 32/100gm on dropbox) if the service it self is better.
It's a shame too, I really enjoy using Docs and Gmail, and it would make a ton of sense to stay with in that ecosystem. But I keep all of my documents in sync between 2-3 machines at any given time, and Drive just doesn't cut it.

I stopped using drive in the past 4 months. Files I would place in the Drive folder on my laptop would, without any apparent cause, not sync to drive. Sometimes producing an error, other times not alerting me at all. This would cause project files to be out of sync for me and occasionally others who were sharing a project folder.
This was not an issue with docs, but since they are all in the cloud anyway it doesn't really matter. It's a shame, because I quite like using docs.

Yep Google Drive just give a huge hit at Dropbox!
Iam using Google Drive, Dropbox and BOX and all services are working perfectly. Iam on Windows 7 & Windows 8
Iam testing OwnCloud since a week, its an open source cloud app that you install on your own server. Cost 0$

pay out the ass for dropbox. I went through the same thing a few months ago and I tried all the other offerings... amz, drive, etc. I settled on drive because it was a lot cheaper. BUT... Syncing across my home and work computer was a crap shoot and it fucked me over multiple times– sometimes it simply wouldn't sync files.
I searched around and apparently it's a pretty common problem. At around the same time my work upgraded everyone to Adobe CC and now I use that for syncing large work files and also use free dropbox for other small files

had to remove DropBox from my MacBook as it massively interfered with Sublime Text and SourceTree. Basically, it would cause so many Finder file updates to happen that the messenger service would break so Sublime and SourceTree couldn't detect file updates unless I manually refreshed the directories.

Google is the China of office tools.

Copy, Sugar Sync and Wuala.
Google Drive is very practical because of the applications.
I was using, by my own initiative at work.
But I decided to get rid of Google from my life and my colleague was depressed...

I'd love to move from Dropbox to Google Drive, but I the lack of Symbolic Links on GD is a pity.
Unless anyone knows a work around for that?

BTSync has completely replaced Dropbox for me

We've moved our entire studio NAS onto Google drive, which is particularly useful when say working from home or needing to read a document on the train etc.
I've had one issue with dragging a file into a folder in there through finder and it not actually being there next time I looked but overall it's been great.

I use the shit out of google drive. Mac, iphone, ipad, never had a problem yet.

Tried switching to google drive earlier this year, my files haven't synced from home to work or vice versa so just use it for storage. Still using dropbox for projects.
But yes, you can just go in to preferences and choose which folders to sync.
- actually had to go home, restart google drive on my home computer, come back in. pain in the ass.kingsteven

and then they cancel the program just like Reader.

i was with Dropbox for a few years and i just moved to Google Drive, their prices are amazing and i really like the Apps and the website for Drive. Dropbox is a one year plan vs month to month for Google. I like the fact i can cancel anytime with Google.
- benfal990
Both are fast.
i would recommand Google for the price and month to month payment.
