fuck I hate this company

- I think this only refer to cloud files. I don't know how they'd be able to legally put spyware on your computers and be open about it.CyBrainX
- I would never leave files on their cloud. I'd leave some color libraries but that's it.CyBrainX

- I never use the Adobe Cloud for my work. Always local saves and turn off any cloud shit.sab
- oh man the things they could do with those colour libraries you leave on there!microkorg

I was looking for a way to create Normal Maps for 3D. There used to be an easy way to do it in Photoshop: Filter - 3D - Generate Normal Map. That doesn't work anymore because Adobe abandoned any 3D features in Photoshop. I could forgive that somewhat because most of those features worked very badly. The problem is they left those broken features in the menu and they give ridiculous unrelated error message about having to turn on Graphic Processor. The other obnoxious thing about that is you can do that in Substance but you have to pay quite a bit for that beyond a regular Adobe account.
I eventually found this free online method but the preview is too small to be useful.

Colors and vector scale still don't show correctly in Acrobat. It's been a known problem for so many damn years.
Fucking annoying having to send clients 10 jpgs.

They "clarified" the latest "fuck adobe" issues

"Adobe’s continued commitments
Our commitments to our customers have not changed.Adobe does not train Firefly Gen AI models on customer content. Firefly generative AI models are trained on a dataset of licensed content, such as Adobe Stock, and public domain content where copyright has expired. Adobe will never assume ownership of a customer's work. Adobe hosts content to enable customers to use our applications and services. Customers own their content and Adobe does not assume any ownership of customer work.
"- Conveniently left out any mention of 4.2, which grants them not 'ownership' but a worldwide sublicensable license.monNom
- Peculiar they specified "FireFly Generative AI" models, instead of something more general.monNom
- Yup, basically you can't really work with Adobe anymore under any NDA contract, your work is THEIR work now, it's insanegrafician

There is some bs press release about adobe getting slammed by the ftc about misleading subscribers, nothing about privacy or the fuckup around AI. These fuckers are going to get away with that.
- I wouldn't assume that case is instead of other actions that might be taken against Adobe. The privacy/cloud issue is only a few days old.CyBrainX

Pulling the Plug...
For the last six months I only use Acrobat Pro and sometimes Audition.I guess the time is now because it doesn't make sense anymore to pay 37€ a month for something I don't use.
I've got alternatives to everything and Bridge is free.
Acrobat Pro though is really unbeatable I guess.Anyone using an alternative you can recommend?
I'm really gonna miss Adobe Illustrator...
So my alternatives will be:
Affinity Photo
Affinity Designer
Affinity Publisher (in case I need something like InDesign)
Reaper (Audacity's UI is just 90's Windows)
DaVinci Resolve
Foxit PDF?
Handbrake?Bridge is free so I think I'm covered.
- I'm obviously open to suggestions. Adobe CC was handy for now and then projects and because of my freelance work but in the last two years I barely did anythingoey_oey
- What pains me are the years of gathered knowledge to achieve the level of ease of use with tools I nowadays rarely use. It's just practical.oey_oey
- And convenient. Open app. Work. Done.oey_oey

- "on you"sted
- it is so bad that it hurts my eyes, so it must have been made with gimp.sted
- ya ignore gimp. it's not worth it even if they pay you.pango
- what the fuck is Scribus? How is that an alternative to InDesign?Ianbolton
- not idea but it's free. so i imagine it suckspango
- I used Scribus to layout a non-fiction book. Was a bit janky at times but did the job.skinny_puppy
- I pay for Photopea, it's my go to replacement for PS. I've tried to love the GIMP, but we couldn't make it work. Inkscape is my go-to for vector and SVG.skinny_puppy

fucking christ if you feel your imaginary james bond level life/privacy threatened by an agreement just install an old package of their shit and forget about the cloud and everything else.
happy cave death.

US government sues Adobe for ‘deceiving’ subscriptions that are too hard to cancel

Would now be a good time to scare adobe and look for a discount on 3 business licenses for the full suite? We absolutely need the programs for the foreseeable future, but maybe could save a little cash each month.
How would a guy like me go about that?

Just purchased the complete Affinity package (Designer, Photo, Publisher for iOS, Mac OS and Windows plus some tools, brushes, etc...) for 62€.
Before I tried to quit Adobe and got a two month free deal.
Gonna try that again in September to phase out and convert files if necessary. If it doesn't work I'll just quit using the method I posted.I'm on parental leave till June 2025.
Gonna play with those Affinity apps one hour a day till then.Think what you want, all I can say it's not easy to practically throw away almost 30 years of Adobe skills or whatever you wanna call it.
And yes, I was shocked that Canva took over.
Lets see what happens next.- I use Affinity daily. Last time I used Adobe was around maybe half a year ago to convert files...grafician
- I get using Adobe in a team/agency environment, but for freelancers/studios is not needed anymore.
Not to mention doing 90% of the work in Figma these daysgrafician - Exactly, slowly it stop making sense for me as well as a freelancer that barely has work.
Occasional magic tricks in PS and Audition for mixtapes.oey_oey - But illustrator was the main reason for years to keep Adobe but now I don't open it like for 6 months, not even to trace anything.oey_oey
- For me it was the overwhelming "features" changes, bugs etc. then "training our AI on users' work" was the bye bye moment for good these daysgrafician
- And like I said, Acrobat was really the program I used most in the last two years. So if I'm gonna make personal projects in the future, Affinity will be enoughoey_oey
- Bring PDF files into Designer 2 and you can edit pretty much everything. Also PDF export is really solid.grafician
- ^ that's really good to know, thanks!oey_oey
- been using affinity for several years now. i still miss illustrator, but less and less each dayhans_glib
- Damn, you get a year of parental leave? JEALOUS.kreydle
- Sorry, I mix stuff, I don't have parental leave as I'm unemployed. I receive one year parental support.oey_oey
- But in Germany you have right to three years.oey_oey

I did it. Just bought Affinity V2 package. It was half off right now so $85 for the desktop and ipad license together. Now i just have to figure out how to use it and when to switch projects over. Wish me luck qubes.
- I haven't fully switched but like having Affinity around; There are some unique features in Designer, and app performance is much better than Illustrator.evilpeacock
- I applaud you as thinking of doing same... however after all the TikTok’s I keep seeing of everyone jumping ship...prophetone
- I can’t help but laugh at the very real possibility that ADOBE will eventually buy Affinity bc they’ll have no other strategyprophetone
- Just think of the betrayal-driven backlash we’re gonna see on the designer socials lol, everyone will just give upprophetone
- the money we spent on buying bloggers and people with high reach was just insane, but it really worked out at the end.sted
- eww sorry wrong post.sted
- for an $85 one time fee I can slowly deal with the fallout of adobe while still making an income and not feel like a complete junior designer learning affinity.capn_ron
- @prophetone Adobe would have to buy Canva, they bought Affinity in Marchdmay
- Well Adobe is supposedly 10X richer than Canva so who knows, but they are going to get backed into a corner eventually as more users bounceprophetone
- They were willing to spend $20 billion on Figma, so they could do itdmay
