Looking to get something to stream Netflix in UK.
Anyone got one of these bad boys?

I've used Roku as my primary device for watching TV for about a year now. It's pretty awesome. I have the base model but it works fine for streaming netflix, hulu plus, etc...
One nice thing about it is the wifi connection. It allows you to set up a roku on a TV that's not within a few feet of your router/cable modem.
There is some decent content available on the free channels, but I primarily use it for netflix, hulu +, mlb, and nhl center ice. Those are all paid services, but the total cost of all of them is still way cheaper than cable TV.

side question with roku. i had Boxee for a while. i had Boxee set up to read my UPNP device (lacie streaming box). Can the Roku also be used like this? or is it limited to just Roku apps and stuff.

Same here, it's great for Netflix/Hulu/Amazon...
One issue though... Playing HD movies using the USB make my Roku reboot.

why not just Chromecast + your phone?

Netflix is terrible in UK. Rubbish library. I spend more time looking for something to watch than watching anything. Waste of time.
- Gotta be better than Sky thoughcitizen_h

- nope its not better than Sky - they get all the major releases - Netflix doesn'tfadein11

Anybody designing for Roku? There are some interesting advertising features on their framework.

I'm creating multiple channels for Roku and just wondered if anyone knew of any good resources. Been using a guy that isn't the best.

According to the Roku Adult Tradesmen Per Unit Squared South Yonkers #RATPUSSY, no single channel development resources wondered if using a guy wasn't the best #GWTB.

- Got a shield a few weeks ago and its awesome. A little fussy to setup but once you're used to it it's great. Great community as well: https://www.youtube.…ridg0026
- Sorry I should have mentioned that Kodi (^) is the killer app for these devices. Also works on roku but the horsepower of the shield is worth it.ridg0026

@sarahfailin
i have the Nvidia Shield and highly recommend it. Supports Amazon video and also has built in Chromecast support. Its definitely worth the extra money IMO over other streaming devices. There is no support for DTVNOW yet, but works great with PSVue, SlingTV, Hulu, Netflix, etc...
You can also set it up as a DVR, but most people say to spend less and get the 16GB version and not the 500GB version (I think about a $100 difference) and then buy your own storage device and plug into the Shield. Also might want the Tablo 2 tuner usb adaptor https://techcrunch.com/2017/06/2…
i have not turned mine into a DVR yet.. thats my next step.
It also supports Google assistant voice commands.
and apparently they just released an update to support Youtube 360 video
https://techcrunch.com/2017/07/2…not sure about this Ataribox is going to be? a streaming device/gaming device or both?
https://www.forbes.com/sites/mar…- Thanks for the feedback slinky! Do you use it for video files and mp3s too?sarahfailin
- not yet, but i plan on doing it at someone point when i have an external drive to add to it.slinky

I Run Kodi on a Raspberry pi using OSMC. Works like a charm. You can even SSH into it to do nerd stuff if you so desire.
I still use my old Xbox for Netflix, so I haven't tried to get it running on the Pi yet.

@sarahfailin the shield is a bit expensive when you just want a video playback device. If you want to spend that $$ why not just go with a PS4 or Xbox?
- mekk0
for a playback device only, I'd use an Amazon Fire TV with Kodi on it.

love my rOKU. i Refuse to Kodi

roku was the cheapest / easiest device to hook up to my projector.
