hearst castle is on the one around paso robles. 17 mile drive is pretty as well, just before Monterey. the aquarium there is great. There is also the mystery spot around santa cruz if you like tourist traps.
Big sur is my personal fav though
- +1 to aquariumalbums

Carmel...anywhere on the Monterey Peninsula.

Theres pretty much nothing of note between LA and Camarillo. Unless, of course, you want to experience the San Fernando Valley, which is like the porn capital of the world and the weed capital of southern California. Just in case you're into either of those...

yeah dude Carmel, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Half moon bay, all nice

I second Carmel. Awesome place for you and your wife to stay for a day or two. Plus it's basically the mid-point between here and LA. Big Sur is also gorgeous to go hike around at. Monterey and Santa Cruz are also nice places to roll through.
Let me know if you want to grab a drink when you are in SF.

We are going from LA to Camarillo for the wedding. Not intending to see anything between the two cities. Will then be going from Camarillo north to SF.
Thanks for all the tips!

I've read online that C.armel is a good mid point between the two cities. I really don't want to do it in one day, plus lots of stopping for pictures. I learned that the hard way driving around Iceland in 5 days.

spend two days there. plenty to explore and do (the shops are mostly "old people" art and jewelry...but some okay stuff. plenty of great places to eat. if you jog, you can run through part of 17 mile drive. great views.

There really isn't anything between Camarillo and LA, to be honest.

mono - we're staying in Camarillo at the wedding, then heading to SF the next day maybe.
- then I say the best place between Camarillo and SF is Santa Barbara... skip LA altogether, that place sucksmonospaced

I just made the drive from San Diego to SF and back. It's a really beautiful drive if you take the 1. It takes a bit longer than 101 or 5, but worth it IMO. You can't go wrong wherever you stay. Enjoy.
- mg330
Definitely taking the 1. It's a drive I've been wanting to do for a while.
- you're gonna love it. on the way you might want to check out hearst castle and definitely stop at big sur.sea_sea
- Hearst Castle is cool. Also check out Montana de Oro.monospaced
