My wife and I are heading out to a wedding northwest of LA in late August. Trying to plan a full week vacation around it. We've got some friends in LA we'd love to see (never been there) and thinking about driving to SF after the wedding, maybe staying somewhere along the way.
I think we're going to stay at The Standard in LA at the beginning, and the wedding is in Camarillo.
Any great places to stay in between both cities? We'd want to drive up the coast, stay somewhere nice, then a few days in SF.

There really isn't anything between Camarillo and LA, to be honest.

mono - we're staying in Camarillo at the wedding, then heading to SF the next day maybe.
- then I say the best place between Camarillo and SF is Santa Barbara... skip LA altogether, that place sucksmonospaced
- Yeah it sucks here...ArmandoEstrada
- santa monica is nice tho. imo.sureshot
- Santa Monica IS LA thoughmonospaced

- whatever, LA doesn't suck. you suck. ;) kidding! lol ..it all depends on what you're into. LA has some cool spots too.sea_sea
- no, it doesn't "suck," but it's hard to find the good among all the bad, IN MY OPINIONmonospaced
- LA does not suck at all. End of thread.wordssssss
- if you think LA has no suck, then you haven't seen real CAmonospaced

I just made the drive from San Diego to SF and back. It's a really beautiful drive if you take the 1. It takes a bit longer than 101 or 5, but worth it IMO. You can't go wrong wherever you stay. Enjoy.

Definitely taking the 1. It's a drive I've been wanting to do for a while.
- you're gonna love it. on the way you might want to check out hearst castle and definitely stop at big sur.sea_sea
- Hearst Castle is cool. Also check out Montana de Oro.monospaced

hearst castle is on the one around paso robles. 17 mile drive is pretty as well, just before Monterey. the aquarium there is great. There is also the mystery spot around santa cruz if you like tourist traps.
Big sur is my personal fav though
- +1 to aquariumalbums
- dont forget the elephant sealsfresnobob
- One of my best friends does all the graphics and exhibit builds at the aquarium there.monospaced

Stop by Cupertino on the way to SF and say hello to Ive.

Carmel...anywhere on the Monterey Peninsula.

Theres pretty much nothing of note between LA and Camarillo. Unless, of course, you want to experience the San Fernando Valley, which is like the porn capital of the world and the weed capital of southern California. Just in case you're into either of those...

I second Carmel. Awesome place for you and your wife to stay for a day or two. Plus it's basically the mid-point between here and LA. Big Sur is also gorgeous to go hike around at. Monterey and Santa Cruz are also nice places to roll through.
Let me know if you want to grab a drink when you are in SF.

We are going from LA to Camarillo for the wedding. Not intending to see anything between the two cities. Will then be going from Camarillo north to SF.
Thanks for all the tips!

Hey monospaced - where are good places to stay in SB? I usually drive up for the day from LA, hit up some wineries and a seafood joint then drive back the same night. But I'd definitely consider staying overnight...just can't seem to find any good hotels for under $300 up there.
- Good question. As I'm from there, I usually don't stay in hotels. That being said, can't beat the Coast Village Inn for pricemonospaced
- for price and location in Montecito.monospaced
- It's not fancy, but it's in the 'cito Village and it's quiet and it's gorgeous in the areamonospaced
