Not for one second does this assailant fear a phone call to the police. in fact his action indicate that by simply overpowering, you *will* comply. The world hasn't changed to worse, it's always been this way. now, this women hasn't done anything wrong. no mistake on her part, she's lucky to be alive and in good condition.
this serves as a reminder that living in a world where nothing bad can happen or nothing like this, naive.the world is wonderfully vast place; be prepared.

the problem with 'preparing' for these kind of things is one, they may require instruments of defense, be it pepper spray, batons, knives, guns, etc.- and two, you cant always just carry them on you, take this woman for example. I would almost guarantee you that our government, here in the good old U-S of A, would prefer to go after people trying to protect themselves using those things and deal with people getting robbed and beaten - then flip it around.
