And I will say, they seem to do a good job with teaching proper form for the big compound movements. Although as said above, that can get easily compromised when running a WoD, where faster is better. That is something that has to be monitored.....

worst cult ever

Horrible video. Looks like a montage of random people doing totally random exercises.

well I take that back, I guess I shouldn't hate on anyone actually doing something. I'm just tired of my friends posting pictures of themselves pushing a tire around a parking lot on fb and going on and on about it. I think it costs a ton of money and I'm sick of the cult mentality surrounding it.
but if it appeals to you then do it

Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports.

It all depends on the location. I just started up a couple months ago and love it. Some people are hardcore, some not so much. My experience so far has been completely positive. Just go in for a free workout and see what you think.

You'd be better going and getting a coach that teaches olympic lifting, pay a few bucks to go to a good kettlebell class and take up an actual sport.
- Kettlebells are the shit! So many good and different workouts with those basterds.

I did it for a while, enjoyed it a lot. Session times only really made me change to something else. It has had the cult criticism thrown at it, but then anything that has a positive impact about which people are enthusiastic tends to be a labelled 'cult' nowadays. Usually by people who know they should be doing something themselves...
- Do they give you any literature?waterhouse
- The only literature I've gotten so far is a flyer with the gym times and rates.hereswhatidid

I know quite a few people who are a part of the crossfit thing. Almost all of them have been hurt at one point in time or another. Torn bicep. Pulled hamstring. Pulled back. Tweaked shoulders a many. Deep bone bruise (2) in the knees from landing wrong off the rings. Torn rotator cuff. Smashed finger. Lots of sore lower backs.
LifeTime Fitness started to go the way of crossfit but quickly started to phase it out. Too many people were getting injured. They've since modified their version accordingly.
It's great, if you know what you're doing. Even then, gotta be careful.
- I've learned to accept that you get injured one way or another working out. Just learn from itcannonball1978
- Crossfit is known for more injuries but if you're really working out you will get some injuries.Pupsipu

I wouldn't say it's any more of a cult than any club or group activity where people get psyched up about it. I've seen WordPress users groups that by that criteria would be a cult. I imagine if you went to a typography meetup at a bar, the people around you not in the group would think you're pretty f'ng weird.

I did it for about 6 months. Some of the toughest workouts I've ever done. The box I went to had a great vibe and the coaches were all very good. Unfortunately a split second of bad form left me with a severe back strain that kept me sidelined for almost 3 months. Working my way back into shape now.

this is the first I've heard of The Cult mentality but it's totally true. I have friends that seem to be addicted to it. It's all they talk about, they leave work early, cancel plans, can't go out of town on the weekends, etc etc just so they wont miss a class. They've been doing it for a few years and I would think they would be more fit by now.

Best new tagline for Crossfit:
"It's great, if you know what you're doing. Even then, gotta be careful."
