I'm getting one for work today. Is the "retina Display" version really worth it? Or am I OK with the "normal" one?

    Thanks!

"I'd don't mind the sacrifice of solder/glue when you can get laptops this super thin and portable. In the last 10 years I've only opened up a computer once. Though I can see how this definitely will be an issue for some people."

Some people being anyone who has ever had a hard drive crash. HD Crash on one of these means a new motherboard

^ There's no HD to crash on the MBP Retina.

I switched to a Mac in part because that retina display is just so damn beautiful. The only problem is I still do about 80% of my work on a large external monitor, so until those become available in retina at a reasonable price maybe it's not entirely worth it?

However, I do believe that these "high-res" displays are the future of computing, so my guess is you'll either be getting one now or getting one a short time from now.

need to get a new macbook. figured i'd go with a refurb as I don't need the latest and greatest...but still want it to be useful for everyday design needs.

which one should I get? I'm not sure but aside from the HD size and the video card they are pretty comparable.

    • get the second one: more storage and a better video card. those are things that you'll want for long term use. they're close—but get the better video card.jaylarson
    • good call. i usually hold on to them for like 3-4 years anyway :)lvl_13
    • Agreed. And it was appropriate that you refurbished an old thread for a refurbished computer.CyBrainX
