Unmarried with a girlfriend of 4 years, living in sunny Brisbane, Australia. 2 weeks ago I resigned from a small to medium tier digital agency where I have worked for the last 5 years first as a junior design and ultimately as the creative director. Moving to a big national agency group with a local branch of around 60 staff to head up the digital creative team, exciting times ahead in my career!Partying too much, drinking too much, spending too much, but living my life generally the way I want to. Probably time to grow up a little, and take care myself a bit better :)

Working for a small agency in Sydney.Still partying, drinking, spending exactly the same as I did in my 20s, however now starting to question what I'm doing. Spent last week designing collateral to sell a clothes line for a client who needs 500x edits before they are finally happy... so now starting to think about what else I can do, while still managing to pay my mortgage.

I was super focused when I first moved to NYC from my small redneck town when I was 19 - landed an internship at a studio within a month or so having no formal design education. My computer died after a couple months and I was in no place financially to replace it so the internship sorta died with it. Spent the next 4 or 5 years "discovering" myself (parties, alcohol, drugs, sex). Finally started getting my shit together in 2007. Took some classes, got another internship, did some freelance. Been working in-house for a couple years now. Definitely not where I thought I'd be when I first moved here almost 10 years ago; however, I'm in a decent place now in my life and am just looking to keep pushing myself.

31 in 3 weeks,
moved to italy 7 years ago, took 6 months to learn the languages, started working in a small agency and after 7 years, I'm living a confortable life, I quadrupled my initial worth. Married my girlfriend here 5 years ago, got a beautiful little boy..
Yet,
I'm not near the goal I've given myself 10 years ago, even though apparently some are envious of my life..
go fuckn wonder- I always thought you were in Canada.Maaku

2 years ago i left a solid job to start my own studio with a friend. we had no capital, no clients, and no place but our kitchen tables to work from. a week into that i fell ill and lost my hearing completely- which has pushed us to succeed even more.
we're both blessed with wives that support our dreams and kids that demand us to shut the computers down and give them our attention.
2 years later, we've got an office, part-time employees, and work to last us months ahead of the curve with more showing up daily.

started out freelancing for 7 years when i was 21. worked as main interaction designer for an agency for 9 months before walking away and quitting the industry completely. did a 2 year cabinet-making/woodworking apprenticeship at a small family-owned workshop. 2 of the best years of my life, until my girl admitted to having an affair. i got really ill shortly thereafter and left the workshop. i took a year off and mostly surfed and traveled. started my current job beginning of 2011... i'm earning 3 times as much as i've ever had before. bought my first brand new car last year. i own my apartment. my friends and family all live close by, in a beautiful city and i have a lovely girl who gives me the energy to get up every morning and keep on exploring life...

Currently a couple of years in to the fourth career I've had since graduating from art school in the 90's.Doing okay, could be worse. Could be better.
I could have a bigger salary, but I like getting the salary I get because I only have to work the standard hours. Outside of those hours I completely forget about work and projects. I cycle along the coast to get to work, and I cycle home. I see my kids for breakfast and I see them at bath-time and storytime in the evenings. I never work evenings or weekends.
My salary doesn't afford me untold pleasures. but I have not worried about cash flow for the last two years I have been employed. I have enough money to live well, to eat well, to have stuff for my family, to afford holidays, and to afford the ongoing upkeep of an old van that is my hobby and my pride and joy.
I work for a small company that like having me here as part of the team. It all feel a bit small and parochial after so many years of ambition and ego and plans to be super successful.
It takes a bit of getting used to, this life of little consequence, this being a nobody. It has distinct advantages though.

35 - Senior Designer at a Small Studio in Brighton/Hove.
Easy going, although we get few great projects and mainly bad projects, but I suspect that is a sign of the economic times.
Overall - happy, but sad I no longer get to try and ram Horp off the road in his passion-wagon.
