Beautiful,
an american brand with the most american logo ever, to remind you that it is still an american company selling clothing for the normal american joe,
good for them,
I'm sick of hating just for hating, it is not ugly but functional

^ Exactly. It's called marketing.
It's a dull logo in an awkward container. I expect it to be dropped or revised within a year.

Wow, that is really shit. Whatever happened to "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"?

I shop at JCPenney sometimes. To me, it's similar to walking into a Macy's-type store, which can make a middle-class person feel a notch above "normal American Joe". The entries are nicer... the place is clean and polished... they even sell suits, ties, dress shirts, Samsonite luggage, and custom drapery. The old JCPenney logo was similar to the Macy's logo as well, with the single primary color and thin type. Something about thin type really classes up a logo. But this new one now aligns itself with lower-end brands like Old Navy. I felt like a poor bloke when walking into an Old Navy that one time. It's like a discount rack place with awful lighting and clothes strewn all over the place. It felt really cheap.
- Fiance works at a JCPenney outside of Tampa, perfectly fine stuff. If you're picky about essentials like towels, fuck...!?********

Don't insult the old navylogo.
This looks like a logo for a window manufacturing company from 1995.

No, like the Old Navy logo. It does its job perfectly. I'm saying the JCPenney logo no longer matches up with it's interior environment, what they sell, and where the brand has been positioned for decades... Somewhere between Macy's and Old Navy. The new logo suggests that it's now on equal footing with Old Navy, which is a step down. Based on the new ads, one can already see how quirky their TV commercials are going to turn out... like Old Navy's.

the best opinion is none why give them your feedback if they arent paying you. let them do what they want! pay me and ill give you my professional design opinion!
- really? a design forum full of people doing logos for a living, and you expect silence? hahaMiguex
- hey 74, we aren't giving THEM any feedback, so get off your high fucking horsemonospaced
- look at the gap logo did they go with it?74LEO

I think the Ad Age article insisted that the CEO took it as his personal goal to oversee the design process, which I suppose explains the results.

twice in 2 years!
While I don't necessarily "get it" just yet, objectively I think it could be a good /clean approach. For those hating on the re-branding, you need to understand who they are going after. This is a department store where the masses buy clothes because its affordable, this is not some high end fashion brand that will pay millions of dollars to Sean Connery so they can photograph him with a purse.

Crowd sourcing
The ‘winning entry’ was designed by a third-year graphic design student from the University of Cincinnati...

I think this new logo for jcpenny is awesome and they should use it and use it a lot. It is amazing! The kerning, the color and the font they chose. It is pure brilliance!

if I had to say something positive about it, it would be that it probably will look good as a ticket on the clothing...
- Yeah, but JCPenney doesn't make their own clothes. They just sell stuff... a vendor.CanHasQBN

just because the store isn't premium is not an excuse to make a terrible identity. they've been doing a lot of shuffling , agency wise, as they are trying to change their image and sell more. i'd say they took a turn in the wrong direction.

- fuck that.MrT
- I care less about their bottom dollar and more about me having to see it.Nicelydrawn
