Funny article - http://www.inthemix.com.au/news/…

His name sounds like some kind of industrial strength oven cleaning pad. If only his music was remotely as substantial. I quite like the fact that he looks a bit like Darlene from Rosanne though.

OK, I just browsed several Skrillex songs on YouTube. They're calling that stuff dubstep???
What's really funny is that it all sounds like the pre-made loops that came on my Alesis Micron, or any other synth looks you get for free. The audio quality is kind of unpolished as well. Is that part of the sound, that it sounds unmastered and dirty?

What's really funny is... dubstep in general!
"Once you've seen one balloon you've seen 'em all!"
- I thought you were a musician? That sounds like a particularly ignorant perspective.detritus
- not ignorant its right.fadein11
- it's not right. so skrillex, james blake and burial fall into the same category? good call, very accurate.mcmillions
- Categories, thats just what they are.non

A bit of a generation gap beween the Aphex and Skrillex fans for sure. Aphex surely broke more ground as a key electronic, idm composer. Why would people expect "the drop" on a non-dubstep song anyhow? Whatever.
Probably best suited for the dubstep of the day, I recommend DJ Captain Crunch if you haven't already.

look at how many times house has evolved - it had space to breathe and develop. Dubstep is built on some simple rules. yes you can change the sounds but the break or drop or whatever always has the same groove. the 4/4 allows more creativity. someone above was right - all genres have great and shit records. house has had many atrocities. but dubstep IS a musical cul de sac. all it can do now is go more mainstream. and if someone says folkstep is evolution please shoot me now.

I don't really have a problem with Skrillex as an artist. Music is music, and I've come to realize that you can't argue what's better because the beauty behind it is that it's completely personal and subjective.
What I think is so annoying is the ignorance behind fanbases, and lacking appreciation behind the evolution, which you see in those kids' comments.
There seems to be a lot of parallels between this, and the Arcade Fire Grammy's incident.
- I'd totally agree with you on this. There are bands/musicians who I really disliked, but that's neither here nor there.mcmillions
- It's the fans believing Skrillex created dubstep and asking where the drop is in Aphex Twin songs that kills me.mcmillions

I don't know much about Aphet Twin but Skrillex is by far the best techno/dubstep artist out there.

Skrillex now gets played way too much in the titty bars. That's typically my indicator when to stop liking something. Although it would be funny to witness strippers shaking it to Aphex Twin. I would make an exception in that case.
- You stop liking music when they play it in strip bars? When do you start liking being you? It sounds awful.Eighty

Skrillex is the current Fred Durst. Some people love it and most people hate it. Eventually we will all agree it was pretty much awful and wander off elsewhere.

I know I said this, but it's pretty amazing how excited kids are about something that all sounds the same, more so than any other genre before it. This "drop" thing that everyone gets so excited about? Every last one of those fucking things sounds the same as every other one.

"Skrillex is the inventor of “dubstep” whose sole purpose is to provide a “drop” — common youth terminology for procuring and snorting drugs. In addition, the rhythm patterns he employs in his “music” are known to cause seizures to certain people, which provides ample opportunity for other concert-goers to rape said afflicted person(s)."
