Australian surfers killed in Mexico for their truck

Was just down in Baja Sur last week. Was an amazing time but we spent most of our time around Cabo/East Cape. I'm sure my mom will catch wind of this story and let me know how dangerous it was for us to have gone. I think you just need to avoid border towns as much as possible.

Just met a father of a family at the beach this morning who the narcos just extorted all of their money, took their car while threatening to rape and kill his wife and kids. Mexico especially Sinaloa is fucked right now because of the Sinaloa cartel leaders getting arrested, it's so bad right now that even the civilians that usually support the narcos have turned. It trips me out that they're supposedly the biggest and richest cartel in the world because of trafficking but yet they now are targeting normal people for some reason.
Don't come down here, word is it's going to get worse in the upcoming months, especially around the holidays
- The city I'm in is surrounded by narco checkpoints ATM, no ones coming or leaving by car, only by plane, and none of this shit is in the newsYakuZoku
- Much safer is on the east coast of Mexico, but occasionally there are reports like that too.zaq
- This is beyond fucked up, where exactly do you live Moldy. How can anyone live a quiet, peaceful and prosperous life in Mexico?utopian
- I'm in Mazatlan about 2 hours south of Culiacan where I used to live when I first came downYakuZoku
- Is Mazatlan really that bad? I'm seeing a lot of people saying it's a nice place to visit.yuekit

I wouldn't go to Mexico if it was the last country on earth.
- it's a shame as it's (or was) a very beautiful country in placeshans_glib
- Ok well actually if it was the last country on earth, it would likely be the safest place.********
- If it was the last country on Earth you would already be in Mexico.palimpsest
- ^ LOLYakuZoku
- pali spittin' truth.Continuity
- No, my joke is more correct. It’s possible to have places that aren’t countries.********
- I am sorry but I have to point that my joke is the more functionally correct of the two********
- Mexico is awesome! Anyone who has the opportunity but doesn't visit is missing out!Krassy

- Replace the drinks with cold Mexican beer (no Coronita please) and some good nachos instead of the Doritos... and I'm in ;)OBBTKN
- after eating this shit since '07 I'm over it!
I dig it but, a little fuckin' variety down here would be niceYakuZoku - I would kill for some Pho or a little Tikka Masala or something ffsYakuZoku
- Come to Munich, moldy. I'll feed you ramen.Continuity
- I would kill for that too!YakuZoku
- looks more like Tex-Mexmilfhunter
- no idea what that shit is, but it sure as hell isn't the sort of food i ate in mexicohans_glib
- @hans I'm jealous! To me, really proper Mexican food is, like ... nirvana.
Not unlike Japanese food.Continuity - i made a banging birria de res the other day. with homemade corn tacos, and lightly pickled jalapeño slices for a bit of fresh. fucking acehans_glib
- adapted from this recipe: https://greatcurryre…hans_glib
- Uffft nice! This is the recipe I adepted: https://www.isabelea…
Just. So. Moreish.Continuity - We'd better be careful, though ... our Nairn is dying to try birria but still hasn't, and will probably want to eat his monitor if he reads this.Continuity
- yep your recipe looks pretty much the same. i love the the colour of that sauce when the chillies etc have been rehydrated and processed - so deep and rich!hans_glib
- but the pickled jalapeños and home made tacos are definitely what brings the dish alive. i tried that soaking / refrying of the tortillas but it's sooo messyhans_glib
- either way a amillion milkes from that grey looking shit that sarah's postedhans_glib
- The pickled jalapeños I need to try making, don't think such a thing exists here in Germanland.Continuity
- Also, the one step I didn't take that's in your recipe is toasting the onions, garlic, and tomatoes. This sounds like a pro move. I'll need to do it next time.Continuity

Given all the hysteria about immigrants invading the country, building the wall etc I was a little surprised that when you cross the border from Mexico into USA they don't actually search you.
All you have to do is put your bag if you have one through an X ray machine and then they wave you through, but it seemed like the guards weren't even fully enforcing that. By contrast when entering Mexico you have to go through metal detector etc.

US Predator drones & the old U2 spy plane currently flying over Mexico
- Oof, have fun with that. Had a Predator tail me near Nellis AFB in Nevada. Took me a second to realize it wasn't a plane, and much closer than it first seemed.garbage
- Super unnerving and had me second guessing that I had taken a wrong turn, missed a sign somewhere.garbage
- Paging Moldy!********
- Oh no wait********
