- Tulum / Akumal is pretty safe, just stay in those areas, don't venture out into the jungle.********

I haven't been to that area in about 10 years, but as long as you don't drive around on country roads by yourself at 2am, you're fine.
Have fun, Mexico is awesome!

I can think over over 47,000 reasons not to go to Mexico.

I went to Akumal 3 years ago, and I would not go back. The resort and the area were wonderful. But getting our vehicles searched by army guys with machine guns every time we left the beach area was a real drag.
With the constant drug war, and the aggressive current regime, I would not travel there.

I was in Juarez a little over a year ago... I would *never recommend to go there. That was pretty creepy/scary.... but he's not going to a border city...

few years ago I got a book "hidden places of Yucatan", bought tickets to Mexico and took off with my gf. We spent a month there exploring ancient ruins, underwater caves, fishing villages, beaches etc. 2 years later we return back and had Mayan wedding with shaman Don Liuz on one of the secluded beaches.
- THANK YOU!!! That's more like it. Seriously the mind boggles with the rest of hte replies on here.isakosmo
