I've finally had a chance to update my portfolio, and would love some feedback!
Thanks in advance!

Hi there, good effort!
There are too many greys going there and not enough contrast. I would limit the colour pallet.
Logo placement doesn't feel right.
I like seeing all your work thumbnails how
Do you need a search?
Work and About get a bit lost at the top.
Don't like those strange tab arrow things you have. I feel they get in the way of the work.
Don't like the way the brown drop down works on the thumbnails, the pop up doesn't work the drop down appears.
Not really into the work in a pop up (something I need to change on my site too!)
Titles of work examples feels a bit too far away from the thumbnail.Over all I feel it works but still needs a fair amount of work.
- Thanks for the feedback, this is my first "real" portfolio site so I know there are some hiccupsAmandaLee
- It will probably be redesigned again this year haha and when it does, I'll be sure to include your thoughts :)AmandaLee
- Its a good first effort. My first attempts were pretty far from perfect!Chimp
- This is like art director from hell feedback. "get a bit lost" "doesn't feel right" WTF? haha get realanimatedgif

Would be nice if you included some information about your work. A little insight on why you did what you did or what was asked of you, gives a little context.
Personally I don't care for web sites being shown on a macbook, its over done and leaves a feeling that the macbook makes your web site look better. That and why am on a web site looking at web site on a computer... I get what you are trying to do but I think there are more engaging ways to do it.
My two cents, and take it for what it is coming from a guy to lazy to update his own portfolio =P
- Yeah I'm working on a page layout right now where I can have a post for each project so people who want to, can read up on itAmandaLee
- up on it :)
As for the laptop thing, I always thought it was nice, but I have heard more people sayingAmandaLee - that they find it overdone.. which is why I included both looks, I'll definitely think about it though!AmandaLee

^ Maybe use an iPad instead of a MacBook? :)

Work/About really need to stand out more.
I'm ok with how the work is being presented. It works, which is good enough. I didn't have any usability problems, so it's fine.
I think that the About page should be simplified. People are only coming to your site to see your work. That's all that matters. Everything else is not necessary, so info about your inspiration and lifestyle isn't needed and is just cluttering the page up. Noone really cares about that stuff, they just want to see your work.
When people first create portfolio sites they feel this need to put all this info up there, and really not a single thing is important to anyone outside of your contact info and the quality of your work. Stuff like blogs and all that, noone really cares. Just focus on the work, limit the amount of copy as much as possible, keep it very simple.
- I agree with you about the About page. What I had before was basically a few sentences, then someone suggested expanding it.AmandaLee
- expanding the content....but I definitely agree I prefer to have the highlight on my work vs meAmandaLee
- Keep your about info. It is appropriate someone at your level.sisu
- Established designers and internet-famous designers can leave out all the info but it looks like you're looking for a job or freelance, no? Clients/companies can get a sense of you with that information and feel better about hiring you.sisu

designing for designers is not easy - but your site has the kinds of stuff that clients like seeing.
only 3 things that irk me are
1) the logo in the upper right is overlapping the 'worlds best ch' text
2) the empty box in the lower right, makes it look unfinished.
3) news & blog is a bit repetitive- especially since there's nothing in either

If you spend time looking at some of the more well known designers and creative directors, many of them have nothing up there except a bunch of kick ass work and an email address. To me that makes them look like they aren't messing around. All the fat has been trimmed away and you're left with a very impressive portfolio and an email address.
But when you look at less experienced designer sites, they have paragraphs of info about them, links to a bunch of other sites, blogs, and a bunch of stuff that isn't really that important.Just keep it streamlined. If you want to link out to your FB or LinkedIn pages if someone really wants to learn more, that's fine, but personally I would just keep a couple lines about yourself, and trim away anything else that's not serving a real purpose.

fact of the matter is........
you'd get it (GOOD and PROPER)

The work is done, don't fiddle with it. You've presented it nicely. Just tighten up the site itself and get some work! I think your About content is perfect and good for someone in your position. It gives employers or clients an insight into you - you appear approachable, kind and open, which is good.

Thanks for all the advice guys, really appreciate it!

Looks pretty good. I'd say that a few of the thumbnails could be cropped better. The last 4 or 5 don't stand out as much as the rest - important if you want people to look through the whole folio.
Have you thought about a white / alternative background? That wood effect looks a bit template-ish.

freshdude, what do you consider "contemporary graphic design"?
- SoulFly0
To the point, nice work. I think this is a good portfolio site.
Congratulations

- in Canada, circa 2007 - yeah, probably.Fax_Benson
- For Ottawa, that's pretty current in the design trendsMSTRPLN
- It's because the festival was primarily for contemporary dance. They were trying something newAmandaLee
- so I tried to incorporate some fun aspects of hip hop, while keeping structure of contemporary dance
