Nice site!

as someone who has been struggling to make my own responsive portfolio site for the past few months I must say this is quite nice and I'm jealous. Nice job.

Respect for putting it out there and rolling with the punches. Nice site.

I find it inexcusable for someone who calls herself a designer to use a WordPress theme right out of the box with zero customizations or modifications. Really, you couldn't at least change some colors or typefaces? I thought portfolio sites were spaces where you could be as creative, free and expressive as you'd like. You did the opposite.
To make it worse you posted it to a design blog without mentioning that it's a template:
http://themeforest.net/item/smar…
Sorry to be harsh but if designers don't put any value on design how can we expect clients to?
- aww man I had a feeling it was a template but gave her the benefit of the doubtfourth
- dang, I thought it was hers...ernexbcn
- me too - I am disappoint.bulletfactory
- I'm not advertising myself as a developer. In all my web pieces I clearly state what my role was. None of which had developing.AmandaLee
- who cares!? that's what templates are for, everything is fine. Don't change a damn thing if yo udon't want to.monospaced

lol...I made the same comment on the first page about the earlier version (which was also an unmodified Themeforest template) and people called me an asshole and went on critiquing the template for two pages...

Having said that, I like the new template better. Well done!:)

can we EC this portfolio?
- Sorry, what do you mean exactly? I've never heard the term before.AmandaLee
- Editor's Choice on the homepage of QBNbulletfactory
- Would that be ok considering i've used a template? Unless you would be featuring my work, not the website?AmandaLee

You're right, I should have mentioned it was a base template. I'm still teaching myself the coding side of things, but wanted to get my work up in the best way possible. I wasn't trying to take credit for the work of the developer/template designer at ALL.
It's not wordpress, it's HTML. I was using this website as an exercise to better my understanding of coding and how it all works. For those who want to bring me down, I really don't need your negative comments. I still worked extremely hard on the execution of my work and how to present it. I'm sure once I have caught up to date with how to hand write my own website, I will redo it from scratch. Until then, I should still be able to present my work effectively and to the best of my abilities to date.

Having said that, thanks to those who have given some feedback, I really appreciate it :)

"It's my first website showing my work and I want to make the best it can be..."
"I think I got over-excited when I did my last design..."
"I wanted to do something simplified and sleek that would really let my work stand out..."
How is this not trying to take credit?

Only 'designers' who work with WordPress templates will even recognize or care about that. Clients won't notice, or care, and will instead focus on the work, which is exactly what the site succeeds at doing. Good job, and ignore these template Nazis.

"I find it inexcusable for someone who calls herself a designer to use a WordPress theme right out of the box with zero customizations or modifications."
And what about all the fantastic designers who use C*rgo and other such templated services? Does the fact that there are myriad similarly styled and organized designer portfolios do anything to denigrate their ability? I'm not sure I follow your argument here.
If you don't have the coding chops to build a completely custom web experience then why is it 'inexcusable' to use a theme? At least she admitted she needed a better understanding of web coding.

Yes, I was looking for feedback more along the lines of how I've presented my work and the work itself, not the core architecture of the website.

Hey Amanda,
1) Props for showing real work. I wouldn't sweat the template thing. Its not even remotely important. The work is. Focusing on the template is like being given a check for a hundred grand and bitching about the typeface on the check.
2) I like your work a lot, lots of flexibility in your arrangements of type, color theory and photo direction / choices.
3) Noticed you categorized your work by discipline - and think it would be cool if you took an integrated approach for a project or two; come up with an idea or insight, and execute 360º of that idea to show how you think about brands across multiple media types around one central idea.- Thanks so much! I've got a few projects like that (see: NavFit) where i've got the logo, website, print material, and signage and clothing for staff (Just waiting on the photography)AmandaLee

Oh come on this thread is 3 pages revolving primarily around the portfolio itself. Granted she did state in the beginning that she wanted to hear more on the work itself– there was still lots of posts critiquing the site itself and on the second time around a lot of praise for it. There was plenty of time to say "oh btw this is a wordpress template" so we all didn't have to sit here and critique it/praise it as if it were her work.
Yeah in the end it's really no big deal, she's apologetic, and there is nothing wrong with using a template but I think when people give you praise for something instead of sitting there quietly you can cite your sources.

To be perfectly honest, I really thought that the "looks great", "like the site", etc. were comments on the overall package. As in, my actual portfolio and work. I am not, and would never, take credit for someone else's work. In the future I won't forget to cite and will be more specific.
Moving on now.

works in the fancybox appear littler than inline, no need of fancybox .

I like it - template and all.
(I was intrigued by "The Rule of Three" and noticed a typo -
"...connection between then all")that is all :)
- Yeah, that project was so much fun to work on. Thanks for the catch.
