I've grown up around planes.
Unless this story is leaving out some details to how this REALLY happened, then you have to be pretty fucking stupid to get that close...

Sad story. Could have happened to anyone. Can't believe people are so shallow to comment on the article things like this "How stupid can you be? This is beyond stupidity...this ditzy blonde model like her couterparts Im sure was probably so wrapped up in her own little world and with the attention span of a blade of grass had no clue. Im sorry absolutely no sympathy here. How do you not see or hear a spinning prop?"
Ever heard of tragic accidents? Man, seriously, I hate blogs and comment systems so much sometimes. It just gives worthless lifeless fucks the opportunity to feel so much better about themselves when they can laugh at things like this.

The pilot had landed at a private airport north of Dallas when Scruggs exited the plane and walked directly into its propeller. The blades sliced the left side of her face and shoulder and severed her left hand. She is now stable at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

I tell ya, those propellers on single engine aircraft aren't exactly the quietest things, even at idle. Takes one hell of a mistake to walk into – or even near – one.

It must be devastating for her to go from being so beautiful and having people checking her out every second of every day because she's so hot... and now she has to live the rest of her life with one hand and probably some horrible disfigurements on her face. What an adjustment she'll have to make. From one end of the beauty spectrum to the other in an instant.
