Does anyone have any tips or things you do to save money and be thrifty? I'm generally pretty good with it but trying to be more conscious of what I'm spending over the winter to ensure I've got what I need for some snowboard trips.

buy groceries and make meals at home instead of eating out (if you do that often).
- also try setting yourself daily limits. it's amazing how much i spend on coffee and snacks and other stuff that i don't need.********
- ... need.********
- This one for sure. We've been without a kitchen for months doing a remodel, but back in action now.mg33
- and YES to coffee. We have it for free at work, but I still spend $2.50 on it a few times a week.mg33
- and sodas and water, expensive beers... the list goes on.********

On eBay, I've sold some odd things that I no longer need or never even used. If you list too many items, I find it a hassle to make repeated trips to a post office. However, 30 to 40 bucks here-and-there can add up.

Prepare as much of your own food as possible.
I rarely buy prepared/processed food these days, to the point where I pick something tasty-looking up in supermarket and think 'fuckit - I could make this much more nicely myself..'. Even if it doesn't save money, you'll eat better and end up with a better-supplied larder/spice cupboard.
- true that! Its a massive bonus that you aren't eating all those chemicals youve never heard too!Hombre_Lobo

Also - some of you may remember my posting this Excel doc before:

I've used this for years to plan budgets for myself. It might be a little out of date, and you can modify it if you want. I've gotta say it was entertaining to see people use this in the past and go "Woah - I totally live beyond my means."

save on postage when mailing shit by making the "sent from" address the same as the recipient address. put any amount of stamps on it, even if it's not enough they'll just mail it "back" to your recipient

get rid of recurring monthly expenses. this helps a lot.
obviously get rid of big payments like car payments. always shop for the cheapest insurance, etc.
other things like smartphones are a huge waste of money. with my prepaid usage I average $16 a month for my phone now.
and most importantly all the other little subscriptions add up. find them all and get rid of them.
I'm a big fan of mint.com

Being thirty is great. You're past the awkward party-all-the-time-no-goals-in-l... phase of your 20s, but you're still young enough to take charge of your life and do something worthwhile.

A few years ago I wanted to buy a fancy watch so I dropped 25, 50 or 100 into a Amex savings account. Every time I had an extra 100 bucks in my checking account I dropped it into the account and very quickly i had the money. I have repeated this process for Vacations, Furniture, etc.
You would be surprised at how fast a few hundred bucks disappears from your account when it is left there, and how it is hardly missed when it is moved to a different account .
PS mg33 we doing a qbn MW3 night?
- I hope so! I will get it but have not been playing games at all for a while.mg33
- I do the same. If there's any surplus, it gets pushed out of the checking account immediately.monospaced

shop at different grocery stores!
i buy dairy/breads/cereals at trader joe's
fruits and veggies at Henry's or farmers market
meats and deli at stater bros
cleaning supplies and toiletries at walmart or targetalso if you have a 'fresh & easy' near you, they have a day old section where items are marked down to 80% off. i find fresh steaks and chicken all the time which I bring home and freeze.

Eat less meat; it's pricey. And ride a bike or take transit over car trips.

I can vouch for bikes saving you money, even over monthly mass transit, and even with my bike being stolen last month.
