Just got it yesterday, the sheer size is daunting. Really excited to start it.

The length is comforting, I haven't read Murakami in a while, but after finishing book 1, it's nice to know I'm only a third of the way through.
My first impression is that this seems to be Murakami's most "readable" book to date. Very smooth, fast moving pace.

Holy shite it's out... I will be getting it soon.

I've only read After Dark by Haruki Murakami.
I liked it, but it didn't make me actively seek out his other work.- Read Wild Sheep Chase or Wind Up Bird Chronicle and get back to me. After Dark is one of his minor works.********

Started it last night. Great.
One of the Tengo chapters was in the New Yorker last month. Very good, though wish I knew it was a part of this book.

My wife is reading this now - I think she just started on book 2. She's really enjoying it, Hopefully she'll hand over the kindle so I can read it next.

I'd read Wind-Up Bird Chronicle first, thought 1Q84 was incredibly tame and primed-for-a-happy-ending by comparison.
It was still fun, though, and bore the same lovable Murikami narrative and stylistic devices as his other works, but in far too heavy-handed a manner.
- note: Read Kafka on the Shore, preferred both that and Wind-Up to 1Q84. 1Q84 was still a lot of fun though.mcmillions

I'm reading it too, on my iPad. Not to far in yet but it's picking up the pace a bit.
I really liked Norwegian Wood - they've made a movie from it in the last year I think. Also read After Dark and part of Sputnik Sweetheart.

Half way through book 3. Loving it, but it did slow-burn for a little while at the beginning.
@Publics, with you there. It does feel accessible and more filmic than many of his books. Also reminds me of Hard-Boiled Wonderland.
I've read them all and I'm already thinking 1Q84 is his best for a while...
