- Serious question... how the fuck does one go about making something like this???duckseason
- Is it really just a plane of wood and making cuts every X amount on either side?duckseason
- Yup. It's a variation on kerfing.i_monk
- I wonder what the lifespan is on that. I would assume it would depend on the wood species.lemmy_k
- lifespan's probably about the same as it would be if you made it out of a single flat sheet as thick as the thin horizontal remnantsNairn
- wouldn't want to sit on that naked. ouchGnash
- hahah, quite!

- Although personally I hate all this and if I was going to have a wood dash, I'd not bother with the veneer - the underlying woodwork was amazing enoughdetritus

Literally just about to send this out, so seeing as this thread's bumped, here...
It's a bit of an odd job, this one, as it transmogrified from a jigsaw puzzle into this as the client saw my first previews (actually to illsutrate why her original idea wasn't going to work so well).
idea behind it is that each piece gets doodled on, then stuck together on a wall, hence the unfinished bodginess of it here.

- nice, looks nearly impossible to heat thoughterry_cloth
- that baseboard heat is going to do muchterry_cloth
- yeah, very true about the heating. although, it looks like the windows are new so heat loss through those has got to be very little.lvl_13
- nobody ever takes the time to install baseboard radiant heat correctly either. the idiots put 90s in the feed pipes because they are lazy and then whole systemterry_cloth
- makes a racket for all eternityterry_cloth
- There's a fireplace for heat you negative nelly.i_monk

- Going to refinish the oak tops but not going to touch the original patina of the burl which is perfect.whatthefunk
- Burl is a nice find. Be careful refurbishing it, take your time.BH26
- Gorgeous. No staining!MrT

- I really should start making shit like this. What's the point of having a laser cutter if I only ever do stuff for other people on it? :(detritus
- what kindof file do you need for something like this?uan
- other question, is this done in 1 piece? or is it layer by layer and then glued?
can you lasercut 'inwards'?uan - You can etch, if that's what you mean? it's essentially a 2d process though.. 2.5d if you're keen :)detritus
- Really nice!Bilious_Fog

just did a little trade with some guys who make custom hardwood tables in an small alleyway shop around the corner from my house. I got some sweet end-tables and I shot this video over a couple sittings for them:
