I'm doing a website for a friend who is an A-list cinematographer and has shot at least 40 Hollywood films you've seen, depending on your age.
I want to give him the sexiest, classiest, smokingest site Hollywood has seen (or at least among the cinematographers he competes with) and 30 minutes of searching within the industry has produced nothing that's impressed me.
Does anyone have any favorite sites serving the film, video or motion graphics industries? Paramount is the presentation of and elegance of the method of viewing the clips from his films. Everything else, minimal as hell.
Thanks in advance.Patrick

I've never seen a decent DP/Cinematographer site ever. I Usually just run into directories. Good luck, would love to see it when your done.

I wonder if that lack of good DP websites means that studios don't go searching the internet when trying to find a DP for their next production?... and if it's not for bringing in projects, what is it for?
food for thought.
- Production is usually proper old-skool in approachbabaganush
- They might not be searching the net, but if that's where your reel lives they've got to go see it there.PatrickKing

Nah, it's the same problem with photographers. Some have smoking sites, most have their best friend do it. I've done a ton of work for photographer friends over the years and am always hammering into their heads the fact that their clients are art directors and designers. Make it clean, classy, minimal and devoid of any style that will offend said prospects.
The clients for the DPs are agency buyers or Hollywood directors. They ignore the packaging and concentrate on the reels. But even my budddy, shooting a giant blockbuster at the moment (they're predicting it wlll break all budget records) has to fight for work. The right site will make it easier. Thanks for the links, I'll check them out.

Maybe look at some of the Post production houses out there for inspiration like the MILL.

Thanks, I'll check those out. Even great photographer sites would help. Art galleries. It's all about framing one big image at the end of the day, isn't it?

Hmm.....
I think it's 99% the reel and like 0.01% the website....
a logo + a few images/videos + credits + about/contact = simple and good...
- some Post houses have nice sites, like pillhead said.... click on Director reels : http://www.optimus.c…vaxorcist
- but even that post house's site is too much navigation + branding for me...vaxorcist
- Yes, but nothing turns a good AD or designer off more than bad layout, typography, color choices etc. that would distract from that reel. If you want to sell to folks in our biz, design to them.PatrickKing

There's some good stuff here, thanks. Tetsuo's site is very elegant. I like the typographic reference to credits on movie posters. Harpoon, Major Tom, some great examples.
We're finally starting sketches this week so I thought I'd add to this to see if anyone else had any suggestions. thanks.
