The hamburger turns into a wet mess by the time you are half way done. The bread is damp.
And our order came up to $64 for 5 people, which is ridiculous for what they were serving.

Yep, that was my experience. Damp, soggy, shit-greasy burgers. The fries from what I remember were ok though.
I'll put it this way, my grandfather, with no regard to a budget, has two favorite burger joints. McDonalds or Five Guys. Facepalm on that all day.

there's a market for high-end burgers right now, it's insane..
I would open a restaurant were you can ONLY eat your burger w knife and fork, and waiters wearing tuxedo serve you fountain soda only after you have tasted and approved carbonation levels.Charge something absurd like 60 bucks for a cheese burger, but make it all with nice ingredients, maybe kobe beef. No to-go orders, no drive-thru. You come inside and sit down to enjoy it , if you had a reservation.
Does it sound crazy?
I think it could be a hit.- an idea I've had too.
What do you figure the cash investment to do this right would be?randommail - yeah I've been to a few like this with organic beef etc. not quite 60$, more like 15-20$ plus 2$ a toppingDodecahedron
- \/ that burger would cost like 30$ plus wineDodecahedron
- can't say i've been to a truely 'high end' burger joint but mid-high end is about burgers tipping pointDodecahedron
- done, many times.team_zissou
- yeah ,, been done too oftenmonospaced
- not w tuxedo waiters, I'm not talking about "organic burgers" I'm talking about obnoxious / high endMiguex
- rip people off by selling a big atmosphere, LA would be the place to do thisMiguex

I had a burger from FGs a few weeks ago, pretty damn good.

burger tastes roughly equivalent to what you'd get from a street vendor/ski hill/office picnic... if you get the cajun fries, that cajun spice is going to be all over everything, you burger, your napkins, in your drink...

Does this place give out free cups.

Five Guys isn't bad. I prefer to just get hamburger meat and make my own at home in less than 10 minutes.

Fries good. Burger etc. bad. It bums me out to know that people actually think they make a good burger.

I've spent a few days asking around my local friends, and I'm finding a steady consensus that Five Guys is not that great, and really overpriced.

all this talk about it is encouraging me to give it a try. i'll report back with my findings.
