Cities to check out for relocation?

We're taking our company virtual at the end of summer, and I'm contemplating a move. Milwaukee frankly just isn't doing it for me.
Although I can basically do my work (open-source web development) from anywhere, it would be nice to be close to a larger potential client base, whether corporate, institutional or cultural. It would also be great to be somewhere that appreciates design more than this city.
I'm 36, bisexual, a Burner, lean left-of-center politically, a dog-owner, love to be outdoors, prefer to be on foot instead of driving, and am moving toward vegetarianism. None of that is ultra-critical to me, but I definitely want someplace that feels safe and welcoming.
Suggestions (and even specific neighborhoods/places to check out) are greatly appreciated.

Might be the greatest About Me ever written...
On a serious note, Check out Chicago - not far from where you're currently at and there's a ton of work here. If you're sick of the cold, definitely check out Atlanta or San Francisco.
- San Francisco is cold as fuck. 55-65 3/4 of the time.Seanbot

Just don't come to Vancouver, we have enough leftist, pseudo-vegetarians already.

Somewhere on the West Coast for sure. Portland, Seattle, and San Diego all seem to be welcoming of 36 year old bisexual burners who lean left-of-center politically, own dogs, love to be outdoors, prefer to be on foot instead of driving, and are moving toward vegetarianism. Austin, Texas would also work really well if you don't mind the heat.

you should so move to Mosinee WI, it's only 2 1/2 hours north + the gay/lesbian/bi clubs here are amazing. So are all the art galleries, I think there is a retrospection of the early dadaists showing at the MMOMA (Mosinee Museum of Modern Art)

go to a smaller city where you get more for your $$. Madison, Portland, Austin, Northampton, MA (2 hours from NY and Boston and very diverse community)
