Humphry Slocombe in the Mission has great, interesting iced cream flavors http://www.humphryslocombe.com/
Take a walk or bike down the full length of Golden Gate Park to the Beach.
Visit the Botanical Gardens in Golden Gate Park to see a wide variety of plants. Spring is a great time to visit.
Walk the Lands End Trail.
Rent a car and drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and explore the amazing views of the narrow road along the hills in the Marin Headlands. My favorite stretch of road is right after Hawk Hill.
View the city from Twin Peaks.
Go to Off the Grid, a collection of food vans, at Fort Mason on Friday night.

also if you will be using a car-drive down castro/divisadero street from the castro. it's like a rollercoaster, and once you get to the top of nob hill/russian hill you will see a fantastic view of the bay

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm going next month and am planning on doing most of these... btw have any of you ever been to 826 Valencia?
looks interesting!

D, yeah it's a cool little place. they have three stores in total that are really more about the writing rather than the selling. the other two are in chicago and nyc (all dif theme based).
It's almost more of an exploratorium. they have some great prints and shirts though...and some other interesting pirate-based trinkets. if you end up making it there give me a shout, as i only live about a mile away.

How far/easy/hard is it to get to Napa Valley from San Francisco? the missus wants to go...
- jerk0
easy. did it 5 years ago. rent car, go across golden gates bridge, drive for about and hour, drink fancy wine. go to the coppola vinyard if it's still there, he had a bunch of cool props from his movies upstairs.
- OSFA0
Hmmm seems doable... but, what is there to do there? besides wine? Any suggestions?
- jerk0
drink wine, and eat good food. that's all i can remember doing. but it was fun. we had a little picnic lunch at one vineyard and a nice dinner before we left. drove south through Berkeley, it was cool.
